I used this to play for an acoustic set at my church, and I would have bought the acoustic version instead looking back. I hardly ever use the pickup, and we ended up just micing it like a regular one. Don't spend the extra money, just buy the acoustic version.

  • I love these!

I've played these in several venues, and always have had good feedback. Had great experiences in 2024 in Key West at the Trop Rockin' Duval festival. I solved the sliding issue by adding guitar strap buttons to the sides near me, maybe 1" from the back, and use an adjustable guitar strap, works really well. I broke my 1st one playing live and unmic'ed, fixed it by using epoxy, sanding down and refinishing. I'm sure it affected the sound somewhat, but it's not too noticable to my ear. I then bought a turbo, but decided to get the pickup version. It works really well in an amplified venue, but the unmic'ed turbo has a better sound for playing at acoustic levels. All in all I truly enjoy these cajones for the comfort and sounds. I'm 66 yrs and bending over a sit-in cajon would kill my back!

Wanted to buy a regular cajon but did not like bending down sitting on a cajon and also wanted something that can directly connect to an amp … this one fits the bill . Love the usability and sound options . What could have been better ? More bass in terms of sound output .

  • Great fun and great sound!

I think the sound is fantastic. I was hoping for a slightly boomier bass sound, however the snare sound is amazing. It is a good mix between a cajon and a bongo drum. More than anything I appreciate being able to sit on any chair with it, rather than sit on it. When playing cajon drums, I found that my back would start getting sore, but not with this.

First let me say the cajon sounds great! However, I ordered this item in April 2019 and when I got it there was a screw missing from the pickup and a rattle inside. Sent that one back and got a new one. Pickup was loose in this one. I didn't want to try to fix it myself and void the warranty. Took it back to Guitar Center and they don't fix them. I had purchased the replacement policy and so I had to jump through hoops to get the return label and get it the cajon shipped back to them and was issued a gift card to replace the cajon. Just ordered a new one and it isn't expected to ship until 8/20/19. I need my cajon for gigs that are already booked and now I don't have it. Luckily I have the smaller version but it really sucks that this is an issue with what would otherwise be a great item. BTW tried contacting Meinl and they didn't even acknowledge the contact.

How does this sound unamplified compared to the non-pickup version?

This sounds great and like a Cajon not amplified.

Could I possibly plug this into a loop pedal and lay down a beat then plug my guitar in and play on top of it?
