Megadeth's David Ellefson on his Signature Jackson X Series Concert Bass | Jackson Guitars

Jackson

Description

Designed in conjunction with one of the founding fathers of thrash metal—highly acclaimed bassist David Ellefson of Megadeth—the X Series Signature David Ellefson Concert Bass CBX IV is a beast of a bass. Bearing his personal touches, packed with enormous Jackson sound and the hyper-fast playability required by the fleet-fingered bassist, this instrument is a force to be reckoned with.

Redesigned ergonomic contours provide the perfect platform for launching a musical assault—the upper contour provides a comfortably stable anchor for pick or fingerstyle playing alike while the lower contour provides perfect balance when propped on a knee for monitor stands. Built for highly technical lightspeed playing, the 12”-16” compound radius laurel fingerboard flattens out as you move up the neck for increased playing comfort and speedy articulation.

An earth-shaking pair of EMG HZ35 active humbucking pickups in the neck and bridge positions provide plenty of girth and cut as an active 3-band EQ bolsters their native power, shaping and refining it for maximum impact and versatility. The blend knob allows you to mix the pickups to your taste—add more of the neck pickup for a touch of warmth, or bring up the bridge pickup for more cut.

The Jackson HiMass 4-string bridge sharpens your notes’ attack for extra punch and clarity, granting enhanced sustain without significantly altering the bass’ fundamental tone. This bass proudly displays Jackson’s distinctive style; all-black hardware, including everything from the bridge to the Jackson die-cast sealed tuning machines, durable gloss finish, pearloid sharkfin neck inlays, single ply white neck binding and Jackson’s signature pointed 4-In-Line headstock along with a white "Radiation" logo and Ellefson’s signature embossed on the truss rod cover.

Only one instrument is hardcore enough to keep pace with Ellefson’s technically demanding requirements—the Jackson David Ellefson CBX IV —and now it can be yours. Case sold separately.

This was a major disappointment. I was given the wrong Bass in the box and when I went back to get the correct one, I got it home to find one of the tuners didn't work. They ordered me a new one and when I got that one the some of the control knobs were loose. I don't think this one sounds as good as the one I took back. I would take this one back too but I'm afraid the next one will have a different problem so I'm just going to live with it. Not something I expected from a new Bass at that price.

  • A great bass to get back into the game

Been out of the Bass guitar game for over 15 years. I started playing in 1992 with bass gear such as the Peavey Dyna Bass, Ibanez SR800, and BC Rich's NJ series. Fast forward to the mid 2000's, I was playing Warwick Pro Line Corvette Series. I purchased this on May 24 online for delivery to my home. I must say the action is fast. My Dyna bass was fast as the neck was thinner. However, those things weighted a ton. The Jackson has fast action and does not weight nearly as much. Out of the box and after tuning, there was some fret buzz. However, after breaking the strings in and some practicing I notice the fret buzz was not as noticeable. The ergonomics of the pickups, knobs, and body are very comfortable whether you practice sitting or jam standing. Still dialing in the sound, I would like from this bass. I am sure I will find it, it just takes some time and practice. Now I can learn songs from my youth like Megadeth Holy Wars or jam with my daughter and her clarinet to Mary Had a Little Lamb. If you plan on purchasing a guitar case, the Musician's Gear MGMBG Molded ABS Electric Bass Case (Item #1340118421288) works well.

If you are a bass player and play rock/metal/punk this bass is for you! Lightning speed neck ✅ Thunderous puck ups ✅ Looks amazing and it's surprising light. I have been a huge fan of Jackson basses! This is my favorite to date!
