Ibanez

Description

With the growing popularity of the Iron Label series, Ibanez continues to tap the seismic underworld for inspiration. Working their famous RGD body shape from the “chassis” up, the RGDIX6MPB is a stunning creation of unique beauty that adds a new dimension to the brand’s no-frills “made-for-metal” lineup.

This striking 6-string electric brings a unique new air of exotic elegance to the Iron Label series. The guitar’s asymmetric, Poplar Burl top creates a sense of depth, motion and beauty reminiscent of the bluest, most placid waters of the sunlit Caribbean. Pitted against a layered Ash body, these woods combine to create a bright, almost otherworldly color scheme.

Working from the philosophy that playing comfort translates into speed and articulation, the RGDIX6MPB features a gorgeous, Birdseye Maple fretboard mounted on a 26.5” scale 3-piece Maple/Bubinga Nitro Wizard neck that both enhances playing agility and optimizes tonal clarity. The acclaimed Ibanez Gibraltar Standard II bridge improves sustain and provides faultless intonation.

Specifically developed for this guitar through close collaboration between Ibanez and DiMarzio—Fusion Edge pickups have been engineered to produce a powerful, distinctive tone with crisp, cutting, high end, and a tight, compressed bottom end, minus any muddy mid range. Ready for metal, the RGDIX6MPB ships from Ibanez, tuned down a full step. Case sold separately.

I bought this guitar for the extended scale since I play a lot in drop C# and drop B. I could not get good recordings from my other guitars at that tuning and always had action height and intonation issues. The RGDIX6 fixed all of that. The solid ash body has an amazing resonance to it and the extended scale is perfect since it's meant for low tunings. The quality of the iron label build is surprising for its cost. The nitro wizard neck feels so smooth and natural compared to the high gloss lacquer of other makes. I like the option to go with only one knob since I never fiddle around with knobs anyway. Everything is always at 10. The only thing I miss is having two volumes so I could turn the neck pickup down and use the toggle as a kill switch. The pickups are surprisingly good for stock. This is the first guitar that I actually like the tone of the neck pickup. Im usually a "bridge or nothing" player. I like the placement of the fret inlays on the side of the neck. Makes it easier to spot if you play standing up, and it doesn't distract from the beauty of the birdseye maple neck. I've never owned a maple neck, I usually go for ebony, but they made the right choice with this wood. It compliments both the natural finish of the ash body, as well as the burls on the poplar. My one complaint is with the advertised pictures. The color is not that bright. The blue is dark and the green is more the color of leaves instead of that teal aqua color. Many review videos I watched described it as a tropical sea color, but to be it looks more like foliage. It's still very beautiful. The cable jack is solidly made, not that small hex nut that always comes loose. It actually took some muscle to plug in initially, and they've angled it slightly to keep the cable pointing straight down. Their only mistake was the frets seem poorly polished. A lot of grinding when I bend strings. I'd expect better from the prestige line, but for this price I'm not disappointed. Highly recommend.

I bought one of these a few days ago and I can't put it down! This is hands down the best guitar I've ever owned. I've owned guitars from Schecter and ESP, but this Ibanez takes the cake. The neck feels as smooth as butter and the Dimarzio pickups have a really clear yet punchy sound to them. The only limits you'll have when playing this guitar are the ones you set on yourself. The bridge doesn't get in your way and the cutaway is really deep so you have full range of motion when playing on the higher frets. Not to mention this thing is absolutely gorgeous! Pictures don't even begin to do it justice! Highly recommended!
