Got the product on a promo for a wonderful price. I wanted a set it and forget it bass tone(s) for live shows. But I also plan to use this in my home studio to offer a wide range of sounds, including all of the amazing modeling tech in the box. overall very pleased.
I would buy this product again and again

The modeler itself nice and well-built, but GC sent me open box used and even dirty unit! I paid for brand new piece of gear, but received used one (ether returned or floor unit). It even had someone's created rigs, not the factory ones. Giving 5 stars for unit and one star for the service: 3 in total.
The first all in one unit in 25 years that actually delivers

The MX5 is finally the product I have been waiting for. A small unit that can run everything in one unit. The amp models all sound great with very little tweaking; the effects are top notch, hands free editing is great, and I can just rely on the one unit; but can easily bring in other pedals if necessary. I do like to tweak sounds over and over, but I really like that you can get great sounds pretty much out of the box. The presets don't show off just how good the sounds really are, but it is super easy to roll up your own. Too many boxes give you too many options, so I enjoy the fact that while this unit has plenty, it's not overkill. Despite being a 4 inch screen, everything works really well. Cons? For this price, not really any.
great product lots of presets, easy to use as is easy to edit

I'm a novice/beginner, so please be patient of my ignorance. Does this need to be connected to an amplifier or is it a standalone product?
No, it can stand alone. The MX5 has a headphone output.submitted3 years ago
