Hagstrom

collapse expand iconDescription

Introduced as the Concord bass in 1965, Hagstrom’s Viking short-scale bass guitar injects some tactfully chosen vigor into an all-time classic design. This meticulously crafted semi-hollow bass with a short 30.75" scale is fitted with Hagstrom's custom-voiced Dyna-Rail humbucking pickups. A brilliantly designed 6-way rotary switch allows switching between various humbucking and single-coil configurations for a dizzying array of tonal options. From '60s Brit-rock to modern-day low-end crunch, the Viking short-scale bass delivers versatile bass tone and timeless Hagstrom style.

I have played my new black Hagstrom Viking for several gigs now and I am very pleased with its sound and play. We are a 70s and 80s dance band and the range of tones that I can get from the 6 way switch and full volume and tone controls for the two pickups is marvelous. I was a little skeptical about the resonator fretboard at first, but the Hag plays very smoothly and crisply across many styles. Looks good, plays great!!!

I am an untrained home musician. I have heard "it is a poor workman that blames it on his tools". I have played only 6 string and 12 strings guitars. I wanted a Bass to use for my Tascam 2488 MKII. I purchased this guitar and a Bass Amplifier. I am really happy with the sound. It appears that I have a great lifetime guitar and should only have to learn not replace and then learn. The purchase is within the past seven days. I am 70 years old and never played in public.

I don't know who decided to call this a short scale bass but they are wrong. Long scale strings work fine.

It caught my eye hanging in my local Guitar Center in Goodlettsville, TN, which has a terrific staff btw. I asked to try it and was quite impressed with the overall build quality and set-up. Simply perfect; action, intonation, fret dressing, etc. It didn't need a thing! Thought about it overnight and returned the next day to buy it.

I bought this bass for retro "CCR" type sound and it is far beyond my expectations. Extremely wide variety in tonal options, including the "rubber band" sound I was looking for. Bought a black one and strung it with black tapewound strings... WAY cool looking and sounds amazing. Highly recommended!
