Great G&L for the price

I own 8 US made G&L guitars and one Indo ASAT. This is not the quality of a US made 20-30 plus year old G&Ls but I can say out of the box, the neck was straight, the action and intonation acceptable, could come up and hair. The neck feels good, some fret filing maybe but it plays very nice. I am a strat guy so to me it is not as comfortable as it doesn't have the gut cut but a lot of fun to play. Tone and pickup option give a lotta different sounds to dial in. I saw some other reviews and they almost made me not buy it but I figured the the SDOTD price point and G&L name why not. Im glad I did. If you are looking for a good starter or step up from a beater, this is a nice guitar. All of these as well as PRS, Ibanez, Tributes and a bunch of others are all made by Cort. Im sure there are good ones and bad ones. I got a good one. If you are in the shopping in the $800 range buy a US Legacy.

Not a good guitar

This is a new series that is super budget. Not really what I thought I was getting. Last time they ran this deal it was an import Asat. This is the Placentia series. The frets are terrible.

Surprisingly good value. Exceeded my expectation. Nice finish although a little greener than blue. Set up was very good right out of the box. Frets were kind of nasty but with some filing they are now fine. Neck is very comfortable and overall sounds darn good. The stings were some cheap, unknown brand but a change to a set of D'Addorias brought out some very nice tone. Overall I found this to be an excellent value

  • I would buy again.

I re-tookup guitar later in life after several decades of playing inactivity. I am strictly an amateur and in no way a guitar expert but I am very happy with my instrument and it's overall fit & finish. It arrived well setup (to my standards anyway) with non of the problems that I have previously experienced. The nut was cut accurately, the action was good (for me) & the strings where correctly intonated. The strings themselves did not seem particularly outstanding and I will be changing them for a set of Elixir Nanoweb's soon. A minor gripe: The Musicians Friend website product photo's make the instrument look a couple of shades closer to blue than the green of my instrument. Other than that, I am very happy customer. I purchased via a DOTD special and this converted an already very reasonably priced instrument in to one of outstanding value.

  • If needed, I would buy it again.

Wanted a different sound from my MIM Strat to add to my sound choices. Quite frankly now that I've set the intonation, I'm impressed for the money I spent. I don't know if it's financially possible, but having someone set it up before shipping would be a good thing. I m thinking many who buy this is possibly inexperienced. 🤷🏻‍♂️ But overall impressed at how much quality there is in this guitar. Kudos G&L, I wasn't expecting much. I bought it on the deal of the hour. Damn… for what I paid I'm impressed. Thanks MF this was a great buy! 👍 I have to add there was some fret buzz, before I adjusted it, hence the set up comment.

Is this a new branch of fender or an independent brand?

It not as Fender. It's a G&L. After CBS purchased Fender and the Non-compete expired Leo Fender started G&L.
