The Perfect Box For Me

I have an Octatrack but was looking for something more portable and more immediate. The Model:Samples is perfect for me. It's small enough to be portable but big enough for me to actually operate the controls and play out musical performances. I use a small power bank so I can use it wherever I go. I love it for generative ambient with the EASY to use trig conditions for each track, simple access to track volume and pan, and loading my own samples. The long-tail reverb sounds fantastic. Oh, and the single-cycle waveforms that come with the factory sounds turn this into a basic virtual analog synth so its very versatile beyond just being a fantastic drum machine. My only complaint is that I personally don't like the minimal front panel design and small text labels. I solved that with an Oversynth overlay and now couldn't be happier. This also pairs really well with my Model:Cycles so I feel like all my bases are covered now.

I was making beats within minutes. Much more to go though. Looks like things will be easy to figure out with some time on it. Adding your own samples is as easy as downloading the Transfer app and dropping your samples right onto it.

Simply put, this is a basic 6-track, 4-bar drum machine that uses samples. It's not a sampler, but you can upload your own. Each of the 6 tracks can do all sorts of wild sequencing tricks that extend the variety of each pattern way beyond the specs. For example, you can enter steps that only play every other time they repeat, change samples per-step, set one track to have 14 steps which the rest loop 16, have rachet-style retriggers, parameter locks. All of the sounds then pass through a basic but nice audio engine - an envelope, a resonant hi/low filter, LFO, delay and reverb sends. Small, plastic, light, but quality encoders. Watch some tutorial videos and READ THE MANUAL.
