collapse expand iconDescription

The Electro-Harmonix Superego Synth Engine effects pedal is a new and unique product that combines elements of sampling, synthesis and infinite sustain. The Superego allows you to freeze sound, gliss between frozen tones, layer sounds and place an external effects loop on only the effect. In addition, the Superego can detect new notes or chords and sustain them automatically without requiring you to step on the footswitch. It even lets you tweak attack and decay, or use its effects loop to invent novel synth patches.

The Superego has three modes: Latch, Momentary and Auto. A toggle switch at the center of the Superego chooses between the three. Momentary mode is not labeled in the artwork; it is the center (or eye) position of the 3-position toggle switch.

The best way to state it clearly is that the Superego does as advertised. It can sustain any tone you can create for as long as you want ? you can even mix it up with other effects, as I am sure you have read elsewhere. This isn?t a stomp box that you have ever seen before and you might be able to live without it. But in terms of it being something that is singularly unique and expertly manufactured, it is amazing. It is easy to create Pink Floyd synth sounds, but the other possibilities as well within reach. I am currently using an old Boss Overdive in the effects loop and playing a clean tone over it; which creates a crunchy accompaniment behind my blues riffs. Next goal is to add a POG 2 into the mix.

I ordered the Superego on a Saturday, by phone, and received my order the following Monday. I have never received an order this fast in my entire life. As for the Superego, it is a very interesting piece of equipment that I am happy to have and intend to add more to it. I love the sound it creates, just as Electro Harmonix described it. I don't try to play anyone elses material, I make up my own as I go and am enjoying many hours with this unit. I can hardly wait to hook up their NeoClone and their POG2 to it. I watched the demo with these three together and came to the conclusion that this is the sound I have been looking for for a very long time. I will acquire these units through Guitar Center. They are fantastic people to deal with by, both, in store and by phone!! Thank You Guitar Center!!!
