Electro-Harmonix 5MM Guitar Power Amplifier

Electro-Harmonix 5MM Guitar Power Amplifier

Electro-Harmonix

Description

The Electro-Harmonix 5MM Guitar Power Amplifier is a pocket-sized power amp that’s a great alternative to a traditional guitar amplifier. It’s super-portable and perfect in playing situations where a high-powered amp is not required — like when you’re mic’d on stage, in the studio or as a backup. It produces 2.5W so one of the cool things about it is that it doesn’t take much to start getting some nice drive and saturation. Plus, it can be connected directly to any 8 ohm – 16 ohm speaker cabinet.

The 5MM is complete simplicity. It features a volume control and a Bright switch which, when engaged, adds presence to the signal. Since it is a power amp, a preamp, overdrive pedal and, or an EQ in front of it will really let you dial in your tone, but it can be used by itself. The 5MM Power Amplifier also comes equipped with its own power supply.

  • Great Pedalboard Amp

This is an excellent solution for having a power amp attached and powered by your pedalboard. I run a rechargeable pedalboard, and it powers this little power amp with no problem. Most other pedalboard amps require to use of a separate power supply, which defeats the purpose to some degree.

  • My favorite pedal amplifier, I'll get another soon

Here's my signal chain-Danelectro Hodad Baritone (with 90-20 bass strings tuned a whole octave down)-Caline English Man Distortion-Caline Blue Ocean Delay-ELECTRO HARMONIX 5MM-Kustom Defender 1x12 cabinet. The pedal is powered by a phone bank (5 volts) boosted by a VHT Vooster (voltage booster.) Also, a 9 volt battery can be used to power the 5mm with an adapter cable. This is the best sound I've been able to get with a 9 volt amplifier. I have a Blackstar Fly 3 that is great but it only has 3' speakers and it takes six AA batteries. This 5mm, along with the other two pedals, a six plug jumper cable, a VHT Vooster (to boost voltage from a phone bank) and a phone bank back up battery can easily be put in the back of the Kustom cab or in a guitar case/gig bag etc. and lugged about like a suitcase and played anywhere. Want to play for longer? Carry a couple extra phone banks. The 5mm is LOUD, powerful, and smooth and sounds great with the English Man distortion driving it, very Marshall-like. This is the least expensive solution for busking or playing outdoors and it makes a great bedroom amp also, plug it right into a One Spot with all your other pedals or use the included adapter (not needed if you have a one spot.) So, the EHX 5mm is the least expensive, smallest, most efficient amp, it's really simple and sounds really sweet, and it's loud for it's size. I recommend it. Hopefully EHX will make something like this with a few more features, like a balanced line out/headphone jack, aux jack, on/off switch, and maybe even other features like a tuner, on board overdrive/boost, delay/reverb. Highly recommended as it is.
