Description

The Darkglass Electronics Microtubes X Ultra is a powerful preamp pedal featuring all the great controls that its predecessor has, allowing users to select exactly what frequencies they want to compress and saturate for the low and treble respectively, but with four major additions providing an additional layer of flexibility, while maintaining the same compact footprint, making it an extremely complete tool for the modern bassist.

The Darkglass Electronics Microtubes X series brings the studio method producers have been using the years to cover the whole bass distortion spectrum: from articulate high gain to punchy mild overdrive, raw and gnarly fuzz and everything in between. You now have absolute control in constructing your vision of what the perfect bass distortion texture, definition and size should have.

    This is NOT just another bass distortion, the X-Ultra is a professional bass preamp that delivers highly produced and polished tones that one would expect from a professional producer in a well equipped studio. Super clean and smoothly compressed lows easily blend with harmonically rich and detailed midrange and treble. The range of distortion sounds are fantastic. From ultra clean to edge of breakup, to screaming Plexi type distortion. All of these qualities come together beautifully and deliver sonic bliss. You would need to spend at least $3k on hardware (and a lot of effort) to replicate what the X-Ultra preamp can do with ease. For what you get the X-Ultra is an absolute bargain. It cuts through the mix like a chainsaw.

    So this is great live. You really have a lot of control. From the Dark Glass suite you can add different cabinets. Also you can set it to press and hold the bypass button to get just compression. The ability to maintain a compressed low end while distorting the highs is very nice. Then as a bonus you can plug head phones and an aux jack to basically use your pedal board only for a great sounding practice rig.

    Yes. Keep your amp flat.
