The D'Angelico Premier Bedford SH electric guitar is a striking blend of vintage inspiration and modern design, now available exclusively at Guitar Center. Featuring a unique semi-hollow body with a sleek f-hole on the upper bout, this guitar brings a warm acoustic resonance to its versatile three-pickup configuration. Whether you’re crafting rich, spanky cleans or bold, overdriven tones, the D'Angelico Premier Series Bedford SH offers dynamic versatility with stunning looks and exceptional playability.

Three-Pickup Configuration for Wide Tonal Range

At the heart of the Premier Bedford SH’s sound is its versatile three-pickup configuration. Two Duncan Designed TE-103 single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions deliver crisp, articulate tones with plenty of spank, while the Duncan Designed MH-102 mini-humbucker in the bridge position provides warm, focused mids with extra bite. Paired with a 5-way blade switch, this setup offers a wide variety of tones to suit genres ranging from funk and blues to rock and pop. Whether you need shimmering cleans or searing leads, the Bedford SH has you covered.

Semi-Hollow Construction for Enhanced Resonance

The semi-hollow basswood body of the D'Angelico Premier Bedford SH adds a layer of warmth and resonance to its tone. The stylish f-hole on the upper bout enhances its acoustic qualities while maintaining a lightweight, comfortable design for extended play. This construction provides a perfect balance between airy resonance and focused electric tone, making it a standout for both rhythm and lead playing.

Playability and Performance-Ready Features

The D'Angelico Premier Bedford SH is built for smooth playability. Its maple neck features a fast, comfortable profile, while the ovangkol fingerboard offers a smooth playing surface for chords and solos. The 6-point tremolo bridge adds expressive versatility, allowing for subtle vibrato or dramatic pitch bends while maintaining tuning stability. With its ergonomic design and reliable components, the Bedford SH is ideal for both stage and studio.

Distinctive D'Angelico Aesthetics

True to D’Angelico’s reputation, the Premier Bedford SH is as visually striking as it is sonically versatile. Its bold, modern design is complemented by the signature D’Angelico headstock, sleek f-hole, and shimmering hardware. These aesthetic details make it a guitar that stands out not only for its sound but also for its style.

Close to perfect

*It's really a 4.5/5 but I rounded up. I've spent about a month with the Bedford Premier SH. I got the blue w/ white pick guard version on a deep discount from a certain nationwide bricks and mortar retailer. I've noticed a surprising lack of reviews for this instrument so here's my contribution. Feel. It feels superb. I love Fender-y necks (not too fat) and this fits in my hand beautifully. The satin finish is lovely and quick, and the way it tapers seamlessly into the body is unique and top notch imo. The string spacing is great; action came low and neat. The neck is a 14in radius which I thought I wouldn't prefer. I love 9.5 radius, but I honestly have no complaints in this area. I also thought I'd miss the snap of a 25.5 scale but this one is still pretty snappy. I like to "feel" the acoustic resonance (and since I play unplugged around the house this is a great feature). One thing to consider: the three pickups are quite close together so you can end up striking them with your pick. There is a little less room than with a strat. The guitar feels great all around 4.75/5 in this area for me. Sound. There's a wide range of tones here. Before we get to that we need to talk about these Duncan Designed pups. Descriptions of this guitar say that it has two single coils and a mini-humbucker. After playing around with it, I think we're dealing with stacked hum-buckers in neck and middle positions. There is absolutely no 60-cycle hum on these two pups and they both have a nice high output with very sparkly highs. I find myself occasionally rolling off just a little bit of the treble with the tone control. I noticed that there's a noticeable volume drop between the "single coil" mid pup and the bridge mini-humbucker. The mini-humbucker is also noisier (a little hum and buzz that you wouldn't expect from a humbucker). The mini-hum has a pleasantly vintage type tone that's really bright and useful without being piercing. I adjusted the pickup heights to even out some of the volume differences--that helped but didn't totally solve the discrepancy. I'm okay with this. One major bonus for me is that you can get a lovely position 4 strat quack when the neck and middle pups are engaged. Love that sound. You don't get the position 2 quack from the bridge and middle though--just FYI. It's a good tone with plenty of cut and clarity but it's no Cory Wong potion. Also, I found a compressor to be a major tone tool for this guitar for what it's worth. Sound is probably a 4/5 for me.

I really wanted this guitar, but...

I played this guitar for an hour through a Fender Deluxe Reverb and a modeling amp. It looks great and sounds great. The neck is thin, but not too thin for me. I love the the flat 14" radius. While I was playing the high E string slipped off the fretboard and got stuck under the edge of the first fret. I didn't expect this at this price point. Also, there was a bump on the fret board on the treble side between the 5th and 8th fret. Again, at this price, the neck and frets should be perfect. I would expect this from something like a Squire, but not from this. I could pay someone to fix these things - if it was a cheaper guitar. My sample size is only one guitar, but it had two problems. It doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. I'll try another one at some point, but the QA was definitely lacking on this one.

I want to lead with the fact that this guitar was an open box special, so it was heavily discounted. So I will try to separate the "used" element of the guitar with what D'Angelico produced. The guitar was not just a gently used floor model but showed signs of heavy use and neglect. Fortunately, I am experienced enough to do a pretty deep dive guitar setup and cleaning. One of the Grover tuners had a broken white ring (looked like binding material) and promptly fell off. Luckily, I discovered it was largely cosmetic and the tuners function normally. OK, now to the guitar: I'm going to lead with the "bad news" portion first. The f-hole edges were rough. If you ran your fingers around the edges, you can feel the un-sanded wood even under the painted edges. There was a dollop of poly on the back of the neck that made it feel like there was a giant zit. Luckily, it's further up the neck almost at the body so my hand won't fo there too often. Frets were not great and shows some sprouting. It's not horrible but we're talking about a guitar that retails for "$799 - $800". These issues are not consistent with a guitar in this price range and left me disappointed at D 'Angelico's QC. So why the 4 stars? Because despite these "disappointments" the guitar plays great. The neck finish is satin with the perfect size and shape that fits my hand like a glove. After replacing the strings along with some fret polishing and fretboard conditioning, fretboard was fantastic. A little time with a fret file and rounding and my fingers were not in danger of being sliced like Vienna sausages. The Duncan Design pickups sounded great, and I will not be replacing them. The 4 stars is taking into account the discounted price I paid and the work I was willing to put into it. If I had paid $600 - $899, I would have sent it back. D'Angelico either needs to drop the price or crack down on their QC. The design and sound of the guitar are great. The fit and finish needs to be consistent with the expectations of a guitar advertised in this price range.

  • Great guitar but the QC?

I got a floor model from Guitar Center at a substantial discount so I'm giving some grace with 4 stars. The fit and finish were below expectations for a guitar with a retail price of $799 - $899. Luckily, I have experience in setting up guitars so I was able to dial it in. But there were some finish issues like the tuner binding was cracked and fell off. There was a drop of finish on the back of the neck like a giant pimple that QC decided it was ok to ship that way. The nut looked very shoddy. I mean even my $200 Jet guitar had a bone nut cut to perfection. Also, the inside of the f holes edges were not finished well, and felt rough. So enough of the gripes. The guitar once dialed in, truss rod, fret polished, new strings, tightening of the tuner buttons, bridge adjusted, etc. was fantastic. The neck (minus the drop of poly) was perfect. Mat finish with the right size and fret board radius. I plugged in and the pickups are actually really good. Duncan design works for me. Tuners are great, despite the little broken piece it did not affect the playability or function. Appears to have been cosmetic. The verdict? I love the guitar for the price I paid. Had I paid full price I would have been sorely disappointed. This is really a $500 - $600 guitar retail IMO and D'Angelico needs to either up their fit & finish or drop the price. Would I buy it again? Only if offered the same price I paid for this one, else I would hard pass.

Got the Navy one, w/ SDOD & loved the color! Any Instruments mail-ordered; (Guitar 101).. YOU NEED TO SETUP!! Unless you buy it from a store where someone already set it up or will do it for you at purchase! Love the guitar's Jag/Jazzmaster combo style w/f-hole and the HSS pickups!

  • Out of all guitars I've tried, this one is my favorite

I use this guitar for personal recording, practice, and to play live with band. The sound is very smooth when clean and crank up a bit of distortion and it makes a killer shredder guitar.

When I recieved the Item. The string height was VERY high for any guitar player to play comfortably. It had paint chips at the back. I expected it to be playable out of the box (as it should be) specially from a company like D'Angelico. Dont even think of buying as your first guitar.

  • Amazing!
