D'Angelico

Description

The D'Angelico Premier Gramercy Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric guitar provides a blend of warmth and clarity that suits a variety of musical styles. Its single-cutaway grand auditorium body shape strikes a balance between comfort and projection, allowing you to play for hours. The solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides produce a shimmering, articulate tone that cuts through a mix. The slim mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard feel smooth and fast under your fingers.

Premium Tonewoods for a Nuanced Sound

The Gramercy's solid spruce top delivers a bright, responsive tone with piano-like clarity. Its mahogany back and sides add warmth and depth. Together, these premium tonewoods create a balanced, nuanced sound with tight lows, crisp highs and a rich midrange. The tonewood combination provides enough warmth for blues and jazz but also enough clarity for fingerstyle. The Gramercy's tone will only improve over time as the wood ages and opens up.

Slim, Fast Neck for Effortless Playability

The Gramercy's slim mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard make playing fast passages and complex chords feel effortless. The C-shaped neck profile fits comfortably in your hand. The fingerboard's smooth, dense rosewood provides an ideal surface for bends and vibrato. The cutaway body gives you full access to the upper frets. Whether you prefer to strum chords or play intricate melodies, the Gramercy's neck is built for performance versatility.

Onboard Fishman Electronics for Amplified Gigs

The Gramercy comes equipped with Fishman electronics, allowing you to amplify your acoustic tone for live shows or recording. The Fishman pickup system accurately conveys the natural resonance and string balance of the guitar. Simple bass, mid and treble controls let you shape your amplified tone to suit the venue. You'll always have a warm, full-range sound on tap for gigs where acoustic volume is not enough.

Premium Appointments for an Upscale Feel

From its ornate mother-of-pearl inlays to its gloss finish, the Gramercy exudes an upscale, professional vibe. The binding, rosette and fingerboard inlays are decorated with subtle abalone accents. Die-cast tuners keep the guitar in tune through long sessions and heavy strumming. Overall, the Gramercy delivers pro-level looks and performance that make a statement.

This guitar sounds and feels really good for $400 or less. Great neck feel, especially if you don't want a more traditional C-shape profile without it being too chunky. I have big hands and it feels great to hold. The tuners are not locking, but they hold a tune really well. It is pretty light and resonant, has a nice vibrant sound and plenty of volume. I have not plugged it in so I can't speak for the electronics. I will say, I love how discreet the electronics are on this guitar. I forget that it had electronics. This guitar is also really aesthetically pleasing. It's beautiful. Loiks amazing hanging on the wall. I like the headstock and the history it pays tribute to. The fit and finish are not what you will find on a high end guitar, but there are no sharp edges on the fret ends, no goofy glue or any issues in craftsmanship. I am in Arizona and even in a very dry desert, this guitar holds up. It is resilient and well built. Like any guitar you should hold it and play it first. Go to your local GC and sit down with one. Maybe it isn't for you. But for the money this guitar offers a lot.

This is my first D'angelico guitar. It looks amazing and unique for sure. It also sounds really resonant and clear. It was very easy to play to my hands. The size of it and sound of it make a really good go-to guitar for everyday playing. The electronics don't get in the way at all.

  • great value for me, got me back in the mood to play.

So initial thoughts Purchased on sale, Christmas door buster… Appearance: Body is a lovely cream, trace of wood grain peeking through. Wow the neck is white. Satin finish. Appears cream also in pictures on the site here, but is bright white. The hardware is a dull brassy look, up close seems too "antique ". Overall I like it, does stand out from the generic spruce clear tops. Fit and finish is spectacular for the price range. Neck binding, clean edges on frets no extra glue or body gaps. I own a couple, and this is where D'Angelico really comes into its own. And this is the top of the gramercy line Playability: improved fishman pickups over others in this line, works well enough simple tone and volume hidden in sound hole. Sound is bright but deeper than I'd guessed. The set up: action kinda high. Strings pretty stiff from factory. Some truss rod adjustment helped . I'll replace the strings sooner rather than later. Bottom line, I'll keep it, change strings and a little saddle/ nut adjustment 4 stars, solid at this price
