Bad Cat

collapse expand iconDescription

The Bad Cat Black Cat 20W tube guitar amp head captures all the magic of the original design while utilizing modern engineering and manufacturing advances to fit the needs of the modern player. The Black Cat amp head features two unique channels with bias-modulated tremolo and studio-quality reverb. Channel 1—a more traditional Black Cat sound—is bright and clear without being harsh. It is very responsive, complex in mid-range character and delivers the sound you know and expect from this amp design. Channel 2 has all the complexity and chime of Channel 1, but achieves heavy overdrive while preserving the signature Black Cat string-to-string note definition.

The amp is very well built and sounds amazing. There are voxish tones in there and can go into far more gainy tones while keeping the lower frequencies tight (unlike most Vox ACs I've played). The clean channel can go from clean to nice breakup to almost crunchy. With an overdrive pedal it will cover classic rock tones perfectly. The higher gain channel picks up from where the clean channel ends covering classic rock through 90's hard rock. The touch sensitivity and dynamics are all there, and it reacts well to a guitar's volume. This amp hangs in there with any of my higher-end amps (Bogner, Mesa Boogie, Friedman, etc.). If you want a high quality, versatile amp, check it out.
