It's a neat little pedal and its got a lot of sweet gimmicks but other than that there's nothing really it can be used for. I knew this when I first bought it but I was under the impression that the harmonist mode would have a better tone than it did. Clean the mode sounds just plain odd and coupled with distortion the harmonies are completely whack. Other than that it's got some neat features but honestly they aren't useful for anything.
Not a Good Sound

I bought the pedal and returned it a few days later. The Harmonist mode sounds really robotic and cheesy. I would play a single note and the pitch would go up and down because it trying to harmonize with me. It didn't work even though I was in the right key. It just messes up the sound. The T Arm mode was great but you can just use your whammy bar and save $180.00. They have tried hard to replace the sound of two guitars harmonizing but for now, it just can't be done.

This pedal really does it for me. I use the t-arm func. quite a bit, because i play a les paul and dont feel like putting a bigsby on it. the harmonies are awesome on a clean setting, they dont really sound as great over distortion but everything about this pedal is awesome, and it give you something to boost your sound sonically.
More than expected!

I just got this amazing pedal as a gift today, and it is great. I originally wanted it for harmonies but after messing around with the other effects i realized that this thing does so much more!!! I'm not much of a guitar theory guy so it's a little tough for me to dial in the right harmonies, but I can manage to get a good harmony from it. I really enjoy the tremolo bar effect, its like having a Floyd Rose at your feet and its so versatile! You can also control the time it takes for it to get from one pitch/ octave to another. There are so many other great things about this pedal that I can't fit in this review, but if you buy it, you'll see for yourself, that this is definitely a keeper! Buy it!
Great for harmony leads in a one-guitar band!

I just got this pedal home and it is awesome! We recently went from a two-guitar band to having just myself on guitar. With the PS-5 I can pull of the harmony guitar leads by myself. Think of the second half of the solo to Ratt's "Round & Round", or the solo to the Firehouse song "All She Wrote". I tried running it right from my guitar into my amp, but got MUCH better sound going through the effects loop on my Line 6.

The Boss PS-5 is packed with pretty much any pitch shifting effect you might need, including harmonies, wah, and extra vibrato. It's also easy to pitch shift down 1/2 to 1 step if you don't feel like re-tuning your guitar between songs. I find some use for it in nearly every song my band plays, even if it's just for a subtle vibrato kick or a slight harmony to fill out the sound. Be aware that like all pitch shifters it adds a metallic ring when taken above the smallest increments, similar to the opening of My Iron Lung.
