Description
The BOSS Katana Gen 3 100W 1x12 Waza speaker guitar combo amplifier delivers an unparalleled playing experience for guitarists seeking professional-quality tone in an all-in-one amp. BOSS's advanced Tube Logic technology provides the lively feel and highly responsive sound of tube amps, while the 100 watts of power and custom 12" Waza speaker pump out full, rich sound. Six amp characters—including the newly developed Pushed type—and a dedicated Bloom circuit offer a wide range of tones to suit any style. BOSS continues to lead in sound innovation with the new Katana Artist Gen 3 amplifiers, featuring revamped I/O and six unique amp characters—expandable to 12 with the Variation button. The latest models include the PUSHED edge of breakup amp tones and the BLOOM voicing switch on the Head and Artist models, enhancing every detail of your tone with superior sound quality, a customizable UI, and optional wireless streaming via the BTS app.
Refined Tube Logic for Expressive Sound
BOSS's Tube Logic technology recreates the complex interactions of tube amp circuitry for an authentic playing experience. Enhancements to the Katana's Tube Logic platform introduce greater range and versatility, including the new Pushed amp type with touch-responsive overdrive and a Bloom switch to revoice the amp's entire feel. Between the Pushed type, iconic high-gain Brown type and four other amp characters—each with selectable variations—you have 12 distinctive tones to shape your sound.
Premium Components for Premium Tone
As BOSS's flagship Katana amp, the Artist Gen 3 is built with premium components to meet the needs of the most discerning players. The custom Waza speaker was designed by BOSS to provide the character of a classic 25W British stack speaker in a modern format. Combined with the semi-closed cabinet, it delivers smooth, balanced sound with tight low end and singing highs. The reactive power amp and Tube Logic preamp recreate the dynamic feel of tube amps, allowing your playing nuances to shine through.
Shape Your Sound With Amp Characters and Effects
Six amp characters—Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown, Pushed and Bloom—provide a range of tones for any genre. The Pushed character offers the touch-sensitive overdrive of a cranked combo, while the Bloom circuit introduces a different amp voice altogether. Each character has a variation for 12 distinct tones total. Five independent effects sections—Booster, Mod, FX, Delay and Reverb—give you chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo and more. Connect to BOSS Tone Studio for even deeper editing.
Tone Tools for Crafting Your Signature Sound
The Katana Artist Gen 3 provides an array of performance and tone-shaping controls. Use the three-way Contour to adjust the tonal color, varying from a classic sound to a more modern tone. Choose from three selectable Global EQ settings to balance the overall frequency spectrum. Engage the Power Control to achieve cranked-amp tone and feel at lower volumes. Save your favorite amp and effects settings to eight Tone Setting memories for instant recall. Connect to the BOSS Tone Studio app for editing, organizing tones into Live Sets and customizing the sound with over 60 premium effects.
Advanced Connectivity and Control
The Katana Artist Gen 3 offers connections and features for any playing scenario. Use the Power Amp In to connect modelers and multi-effects, while the effects loop handles external pedals. Record and re-amp via USB, monitor with stereo headphones or use line outputs for direct connection to a PA or interface. Control the Katana from its panel, an optional footswitch or MIDI devices. The optional Bluetooth Audio MIDI Adaptor provides wireless interfacing with the Tone Studio app. Whatever your needs, the Katana Artist Gen 3 stands ready to deliver.
Expand Your Sound With External Gear
The Katana Artist Gen 3 includes ports for integrating external gear. Send the preamp signal to another power amp or connect two Katana amps together. The speaker outputs support one 8-ohm and two 16-ohm cabs for playing through external speakers. You can also record directly to your digital audio workstation via USB. BOSS Tone Studio provides access to over 60 effects, cabinet IRs and deep editing tools for crafting your perfect tone. When you need inspiration, the Katana Gen 3 delivers.
*Note: Compatibility with all third-party devices and software is not guaranteed. An upcoming firmware update will provide generic driver support.

A decent SS amp
submitted16 days ago
byTommy

After wanting another tube amp, but then deciding to go solid state, I ended up being sold on the Katana Artist. There are only a few solid state amps I would consider owning, much less recommend (perhaps Roland Jazz Chorus, for cleans & Orange for dirty), but this is one of them. While nothing beats a tube amp for tone, the Katana Artist at least comes close for a SS amp when properly adjusted. I wanted to be able to play at practice volumes and still like the tone (hard with tubes without an attenuator - and most color the sound). I immediately liked the Pushed amp mode with the bloom active (both were new to Gen 3) and will probably use that 90% of the time, just with variations on the gain setting. Pushed/Bloom sounded and felt very tube-like, something rare in a SS amp (most SS amps sound like junk). The higher distortion settings are not as nice to me, but still much better than most other SS amps. As much as I have loved Marshall tube tone for decades, their SS amps fall short for me (ended up selling the one I had). Most SS amps are not nearly as loud as equally power-rated tubes, but this amp gets incredibly loud, so the 100 watt rating is for real. The Waza speaker is nice and overall build quality appears to be quite satisfactory. I can't say this amp is for everybody, but if you're shopping SS amps (or even tubes), I would suggest putting this one on your list to audition.

Had the mkii version and it was okay, but this gen 3 sounds so much better to my ear. Maybe it's the bloom button. Stereo through the headphones is nice too.

Best amp I've owned. I currently have two MKII Katanas. The Artist offers so much more versatility and sound shaping. Great build quality.

Been playing gigs for years and this amp is amazing. Light enough to carry to any gig. Gets very loud if you need that but also scales back and still sounds great unlike so many tube amps. Effects are great and the tones are just fantastic. Who needs the hassle of tubes any more.
