Description

Warmed and made silky smooth by the genuine 12AX7A tube inside, your voice will sound fabulous through this makeover of the popular original TUBE MP. Ultra low-noise discrete mic preamp front end has an extremely flat, wide frequency response and can handle very low and high signal levels with minimum coloration. High impedance instrument input bypasses the mic preamp circuitry for a shorter signal path. External power supply minimizes AC line noise and hum.

Input gain control and switch maximizes dynamic range of input and lets you control how hard you drive the tube. Switchable input impedance on the XLR in optimizes mic response. Bessel switchable low-cut filter removes rumble and wind noise. Set at 40Hz, it won't overly affect bass tonality. XLR input features phantom power of +48V DC from a very quiet internal high voltage power supply.

An FET limiter with fast attack and musical release times protects other gear in the chain without compression. This allows you to maximize the dynamic range of your signal before converting to digital. A phase invert switch lets you switch signal polarity at the source to minimize cancellation. Output control after the tube and limiter matches output level to a wide variety of systems. Added output section at the end of the signal path has enhanced signal drive capability to both output jacks.

The preamp is stellar, as other reviews have said. Unfortunately it took 2 tries to get an item that wasn't broken. However, the folks at the store were awesome in the exchange and now I'm really happy. It's a single channel preamp but it's perfect for my needs in my home studio- the vocal track.

  • I would recomend it.

I use this for all instances where utilizing a condenser microphone. For recording, I keep the gain at about two and set the output at around -11. It really brings out the ambiance of the vocals, moving them to the front of the mix. While I am not a podcaster, I would highly recommend this for spoken word applications as well using a dynamic microphone... very clear. For live applications, this is great for micing any acoustic instrument, (guitar, violin, piano, etc.). It can produce a little bit of a hiss on live applications, but its hardly noticed over the other instruments running through the board. By comparison, I have three mixing consoles with phantom power, they can't touch this little baby as far as output and clarity. Connected through the signal chain on a DI this really warms up the sound.

  • I would buy it again

When guests visit to plug into PA or if I need to mic up an acoustic guitar, this is an excellent device at a good price.

This is a great Preamp for many functions. We started using this at our church just to send phantom power to a condenser microphone and it sounds very clear, warm, and gives plenty of gain/volume from the group of singers around the mic. The other functions an this Preamp are a great addition as well. If we need another, for this price it will definitely be purchased again.

I just bought this for my condenser microphone so I can record vocals on FL studio on my computer, but I can't see anyway to connect the preamp to my computer. How do I do that?

    Open Reply - Ronald
on the back there's the USB out in the top left corner. That cable will have a USB connection on the other end which you can run either into an interface or directly into your computer.
