I previously bought the 12" version and it was working fine... until I just bought a rack item that is 14.5" deep, necessitating the purchase of the 16" version. What I forgot to mention in my previous review is that these Odyssey bags are perfect for the Helix Rack (9.5" deep). There is a top pocket that fits the floorboard controller nicely, so you can carry it all in one handy package and still have two slots left for other rack items. I don't know that the 3U version of this could fit the controller in the top pocket, but it is a smooth fit in the 5U. I used the other two spaces for a vocal processor (harmonizer sounds better than the one in the Helix) and a compressor (to duck the guitar volume when I sing, then release it back to full volume when I'm just playing the guitar - very slick; you should try it!) Just like on the first one I purchased and reviewed, I had to move the rails back an inch, so that the knobs of the devices I racked wouldn't protrude and get bonked.

  • good for shallow equipment, with light modification.

Nice and lightweight, and nice big pocket in lid, but the rails are VERY close to the lid, so if your equipment has knobs, they'll stick out of the protected box area and will be contacted by the lid, which has a pocket, so the stuff in the lid will hit your knobs. Fortunately for me, my equipment is shallow enough that I just moved the rails back a few inches. I've been afraid to use the shoulder strap, because I don't know whether the plastic clips can safely hold the weight of my gear and I don't want to drop it!
