Introducing the Oberheim OB-X8

collapse expand iconDescription

The Oberheim OB-X8 is an innovative 8-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer available exclusively from Guitar Center. Brought to you by the iconic brand that shaped the sound of '80s pop, rock and electronic music, the OB-X8 combines Oberheim's legendary analog sound with modern features for studio production and live performance. Loaded with oscillators, filters, LFOs and onboard effects, the OB-X8 gives you the tools to sculpt unique sounds from lush pads to aggressive leads. Now you can tap into that classic Oberheim tone onstage or in the studio.

Eight Analog Voices for Layers of Sonic Richness

The OB-X8 features eight independent analog voice channels with two voltage-controlled oscillators per voice. Use the oscillators' frequency, pulse width and sync functions to create the basic waveforms of your sound. Then stack multiple voices together to build huge, complex pads, lead synths and bass patches. With portamento, unison, detune and spread controls, you can make each voice sound totally unique. The OB-X8 gives you an incredibly fat, moving analog tone with layers of harmonic depth.

Iconic Oberheim Filters Shape Your Sound

At the core of the OB-X8 are Oberheim's legendary 24 dB/octave low-pass filters. These buttery and smooth filters are renowned for shaping synth tones from the '70s and '80s. Tweak the filter cutoff frequency, resonance and envelope amount to craft sounds from warm and rounded to aggressive and biting. The filters can also be set to self-oscillate for radical filter sweeps and analog fuzz. Whether recreating a retro synth-wave patch or designing an EDM bass, the OB-X8's filters are your sonic canvas.

Modulate Your Sound with Flexible LFOs and Envelopes

The OB-X8 gives you four LFOs and three ADSR envelopes per voice for complex modulation options. Assign the LFOs to control pitch, filter cutoff, pulse width among several other parameters. Select from triangle, square, ramp, sine and random waveforms. The ADSR envelopes shape the amplitude, filter frequency and pulse width of your sounds as you play. With the ability to loop envelopes and sync LFOs to MIDI tempo, you can create rhythmic, sequenced patches for pulsing pads, leads and FX.

Onboard Effects and Sequencer for Finishing Touches

The OB-X8 includes onboard chorus, delay, reverb and arpeggiator effects to enhance your sounds. Tweak the chorus rate, depth and feedback for subtle thickening or intense warbling. Set delay times from 30ms to 1 second with modulation for spaced-out echoes. Choose from hall, room, plate and spring reverb types. The 16-step polyphonic arpeggiator lets you program sequenced synth rhythms on the fly. Save your favorite sounds and settings as presets for a simple and instant recall.
