Milkman Sound The Amp 50W Tube Hybrid Guitar Floor Amp

Description
Along with tube EQ, there is onboard reverb and tremolo effects so that The Amp can be used as a grab-and-go amplifier. Footswitches for bypassing the effects are built in. A Class-D power section delivers 50 watts into 8 ohms, or 100 watts into 4 ohms. The speakON combination jack for speaker output takes either a standard 1/4” connection or a locking speakON connector for extra security.
The Amp has an integrated headphone amplifier, which sounds identical to the output from a speaker. This is perfect for practice, auditioning pedals, or for those times when noise is not appropriate. The Amp can operate with no speaker attached so it can live on a pedalboard and go wherever the pedals go.
Speaking of travel, The Amp has a universal IEC power input. It can run from 100 to 260 VAC. No matter where it is on Earth, it can be plugged into a wall socket and used with no need for additional power accessories.
How about a compact, studio-quality tube preamp? The internal XLR output delivers a balanced line level output. There is no modeling or simulation involved, no menus or presets to give option anxiety. It is very straightforward and simple to get great tone from the tube preamp of The Amp and use it as the front end for a modeling system, recording setup or for playing direct on stage.
The Amp also has “pedal level” output, where it can be used as the front end of a pedalboard or as an amp-like effect on the back end of a pedalboard. There is no substitute for the marriage between a magnetic guitar pickup and the first stage of a tube amplifier. Using The Amp in front of a pedal chain will add harmonics and tube musicality to the entire signal chain starting right where it matters most: between a guitar pickup and the grid of a tube.
Using The Amp further down the signal chain creates unique tonal possibilities. It plays well with pedals, and it can add extra EQ or reverb to an existing amplifier. The Amp can drive the input of an amplifier as an extra tube gain stage. It can be a backup for a vintage amp needing service, or used in place of anemic backline gear on your travel gig. At 2.5 lb., and with so many different uses, The Amp may be your new travel companion.

Tony (see above review) should read the instructions that came with The Amp...to get maximum clean power, set the Master at maximum and control volume with Volume....setting Volume higher is how you get into overdrive, if that is what you want (and that sounds great when you do!). It has plenty of clean power with 50 watts at 8 ohms...and if you want more, just add another 8 ohm speaker in parallel to make it total 4 ohms, and the amp jumps to 100watts... I love the warm tube sound of the tube preamp, running at high voltage (way different than the poseur pedals that run a 12AX7 at low voltage or all of those sterile-sounding all-solid-state amps)...and The Amp has so many options for input and output, and trem and reverb...I just add a tuner and i'm good to go. I discovered Milkman amps a decade ago, used the 85 watt Pedal Steel Amp...which was glorious, but weighed a ton...this little amp, with a classic Jupiter Ceramic in a Mojotone 1x12, it as portable as it gets...with no sacrifice in sound whatsoever.

I've had this amp for a couple of months now, and gigged with it 3 times. I bought it despite zero USER reviews, so I hope this review helps anyone wanting an idea of real-world experience with it before buying one. I like it,because it's compact and well-made. My hope was that it would be a clean-sounding amp, since it was designed and advertised as steel guitar clean. It isn't. It has a bit of edgy crunch, and I find myself adjusting the volume and master controls trying to clean it up. It is a punchy amp with Tele/P-90's or single coils. That is fine to me, I just hoped for a Fender clean. So maybe my expectations were high. It does have a good sound tone-wise, awesome reverb and tremolo, and I exchanged the 12ax7 for a 12at7, hoping it would clean it up. It did help, but I found the Amp a bit erratic as far as sound consistency. I prefer 15" speakers, which was what steel amps are often designed around. I like the Amp, will continue using it in hopes I can either overcome my expectations vs possibly an over-sensitive ear. I don't regret buying it, I'm just disappointed it wasn't what I hoped for. YRMV.

Can I use before my amp modeler board into a PA with unknown OHMs?
When you say "use before my amp modeler board into a PA," I’ll assume you're considering these possible configurations: Guitar ➝ PA Mixer ➝ Amp Modeler ➝ The Amp (50W Floor Amp) This is not typical or recommended because: PA mixers are not designed to handle raw guitar signal in the same way as an amp or modeler input. Your modeler expects instrument-level signal, not a line-level signal from a mixer. Guitar ➝ Amp Modeler ➝ The Amp (50W) ➝ PA System This is the standard and optimal signal flow: The amp modeler handles effects, amp/cab simulation, EQ, etc. “The Amp” acts as a real, physical power amp + cabinet simulator. You can mic "The Amp" or use its line out / DI out to send to the PA system.submitted4 years ago

Does it work with any headphones?
Any corded headphones. Depending on the connection you may need an adapter to go with them. But it will work.submitted7 years ago

The Amp also has "pedal level" output, where it can be used as the front end of a pedalboard or as an amp-like effect on the back end of a pedalboard. This is confusing. Can it be used as an FX loop? I don't think so. Tube preamp first then insert for the amp at the end of the pedal chain however I don't see the 'return' to amp.
