Martin
Description

Martin's Special X Series Macassar Top Dreadnought is an acoustic-electric guitar designed to inspire. With a solid Macassar high-pressure laminate top, back and sides, this full-sounding dreadnought produces the resonant tone Martin is known for. Equipped with Fishman electronics and Martin's Authentic Acoustic Lifespan strings, the Special X steps up your playing in both sound and feel.

Innovative Fishman Electronics Provide Unprecedented Control

The Special X features Fishman electronics that give you total command of your tone. Adjust volume, EQ and blend to craft your perfect acoustic sound for any musical situation. Want to cut through a mix? Dial in a crisp tone with articulate highs. Looking to accompany a vocalist? Scoop the mids for an open, airy tone. Whatever sound you're chasing, the Fishman electronics will get you there.

Fully Chambered Mahogany Body Resonates with Rich Tone

At the heart of the Special X is a solid mahogany body with full chambers that produce a naturally vibrant tone. Mahogany's dense grain helps project sound with warmth and depth. Strategically placed soundholes on the sides and back further enhance resonance. Whether strumming full chords or fingerpicking intricate melodies, you'll feel the Special X come alive in your hands.

Comfortable Fusion Neck Appeals to Steel-String Players

The Special X features Martin's Fusion neck, with a nut width of 1.75" and high-performance taper. Slightly narrower than a traditional acoustic, the Fusion neck provides a familiar feel for steel-string players. The slim, fast neck also makes the upper frets more accessible, ideal for leads and solos. Whether you're coming from an electric or acoustic background, the Special X neck will inspire confidence and comfort.

Protective Gig Bag Included

A soft gig bag is included to protect your Special X. Featuring headstock, bridge and endpin protectors, the durable, water-repellent gig bag keeps your instrument safe from the elements. Interior padding shields against impacts and the generously sized bag has space for accessories. Take your Special X anywhere with the peace of mind that it's shielded from harm.

This guitar exceeds all expectations. Needed a guitar that is durable and would not succumb to temp and humidity changes. After 2 weeks traveling it is rarely out of tune. I like the wide (1 11/16) neck and the action on the ebony fretboard. The rich tone was a pleasant surprise considering it's HPL. The only drawback might be weight. It's a little heavier than comparable wood guitars, but if that's the trade off for durability, it's well worth it.

  • I think you're going to really like it!

I like this guitar so much that I am also purchasing the X series 12 string. I play this through a Fishman amp and it sounds so sweet. You really don't need to spend big $$ .This guitar is the total package.

Bought used online. Upon arrival let climatize. Checked neck. It was bad someone overtightened the truss rod. Corrected plays like a champ. Someone's inexperience my gain. For a low end Martin it sounds nice.

  • Absolutely Excellent!

Martin is such a unique American company. This is a great model for a lot of reasons. It's very affordable and instantly familiar in feel to those familiar with the brand. Yes you can spend more but this is a great starting point and it's like a lot of Martins - something you can keep your entire life. I got my first Martin 44 years ago and I still have it. This is kind of an entry level model but it's still beautiful, great sounding and unmistakably a Martin. The gig bag is extremely nice. The finish is flawless and my only thing is I usually play 11's for strings; this comes with 12's. The bridge has a lot of room to lower the action but it plays fine out of the box. I've heard some come with black pick guards and some with tortoise shell - mine has tortoise shell. The tuners are top notch and the electronics are excellent, but it doesn't have a tuner. The volume and tone knobs are cleverly on the inside of the top of the sound hole. Unlike Ovations, that don't sound great until you plug them in, this guitar sounds very very good acoustically. I know that more expensive Martins sound better, but this is a great sounding model regardless.

I play on my church worship team. I really like the rich tone of the guitar. I like that it stays in tune, easy action for playing up and down the fret board. It does not have an electronic tuner, so you need an external tuner.

  • One is plenty but if for some reason I needed another one, .

I'm amazed. I have three high end Martins. I picked this guitar up today and found myself playing it for an hour. I'm completely happy with this great little guitar.
