Description

Gauges: .012 .015 .025 .031 .041 .054

Martin’s proprietary Nickel/Copper alloy blend wrap wire provides for a reduced pick attack and allows the guitar’s tonewoods to be heard, not overshadowed. It offers a uniquely mellow, yet crisp, sound. Martin’s wrap is a solid Nickel/Copper blend, not nickel-plated, meaning there is no chance for defects to allow for corrosion. Martin's proprietary wrap is naturally strong and corrosion-resistant, so much so that it has been used in the propeller of dreadnought battleships and various machinery and tooling applications.

Just wait

At first i was not happy. Bought these to replace the earnie ball earthwoods i was using on my rph-05. Ernie has been my go to since i first started playing. But they made my little parlor sound almost sickly sweet. GC Lansing recommended the retros. Told me to give em a chance. Out the pack the tones were almost harsh. But i gave it a day. I practice 4-6 hours a day so breaking in for me comes quick. Day 3 these things sound like they were made for this guitar. I will be trying a few more brands as I've only been playing since December. But these will be on my guitar till they die lol. Absolutely loving the deep woody tones and clear mids and the high ring true without breaking a ear drum.

I will not buy again

Strings feel loose to me. Sound like my phosphorous bronze when they need changing. I know strings are about personal preference. Just not for me.

  • Best for a D-18!

My 60's D-18 can sound too bright with PB strings or sound dead with coated strings. These Retro strings give it good tone from top to bottom and they feel really good on the fingers. If you have a D-18 or similar guitar you should give these a try. If they work for you then nothing else will sound like these strings. Thanks Martin!

This the only kind of string I use now. Medium gauge on my Martin and custom built White Eagle. Light gauge on my Stella.

In my opinion, Martin delivers on what they promise with this string. You hear the personality of the guitar shine through more than the personality of the string. They get past that "too new" sound more quickly than PB or brass. If you love the way PB sounds after a week, give these a try. If you really dig that new string sound, these may not be for you.

Strings sound good and last well if cleaned well after use.

I've had my 00017 for two months and mostly play finger style delta blues. These strings and the guitar produce the sound that I was looking for. Just as easy on your fingers as elixrs imho and not nearly as pricy. They will continue to be on this guitar.

  • Great tone and they last forever!

I used Elixers years ago when they were the "new thing", was never impressed with their tone. Since then I bounced around to other brands until about 5 years ago when I tried Martin Phosphor Bronze. It's been Martin strings ever since. Love the Retros - even more than the Phosphor Bronze
