Excellent guitar

I've owned my Little Martin for about 5 years now. I was looking for a small guitar to travel with, and I really tried to like the Martin Backpacker...it's a great concept but I just couldn't get past the tinny, toy-like sound it makes. The Little Martin is not that much bigger and I found it produces 80%-90% of the sound quality of my parlor-size guitar, so I bought it. The build quality is very high, it's a pleasure to look at, touch, hold and play. I quickly came to love the 3/4 scale neck - barre chords are easier for my smaller hands to play, and it's possible to reach that 4th fret with my pinkie. The light-gauge Elixir strings suit the guitar perfectly. Sound quality is very good - it doesn't have the booming bass notes or sparkling treble notes of a larger, more expensive instrument, but it produces a very warm, textured sound that is light years better than the Backpacker. I've taken the Little Martin on numerous backpacking trips and bicycle tours. The factory gig bag is very nice, but somewhat bulky and heavy for long-distance carrying, so I made a simple polar fleece cover for it and it fastens perfectly to the back of my pack with the pack's cinch-straps. The guitar has taken a few knocks along the way - including once being completely submersed in the Pacific ocean (long story) - but it has proven very durable and resistant to changing temperature, humidity etc. The guitar, capo, clip-on tuner and fleece cover add about 5 pounds to the load...totally worth it. When I'm bicycle touring the guitar fits neatly inside my Nomad trailer. I've flown with it a fair amount, too, and found it to be an easy carry-on item in its padded case. It fits in most overhead bins, and on crowded flights I've always been able to get a stewardess to stash it in the coat closet by the cockpit. Around the house I find myself reaching for the Little Martin at least as often as my larger guitars. Highly recommended.

Nice little Guitar

Nice little (3/4) guitar. Looked like it was sturdy enough but I actually returned it for a Taylor Mini. The Taylor is more $$ but the tone sounded better and the travel case on the Taylor was much better. I'm a happy camper.

    Perfect for travel. Don't have to worry about where I travel, this guitar holds up to it all. Delivery was promp,8 only had to change the strings to a lighter gauge for my old fingers

    This is certainly a cute little guitar. Easy to play but has a rich sound. Gig bag makes it fun to travel with. Wood feels smooth and light. Only complaint is that the photo above shows a lighter color KOA wood. The guitar is actually darker with no golden streaks.

    I've had this guitar for about 6 months now. I've been in Germany the last 5 weeks for work so I figured I'd bring this little guy with me. I had no issues flying with it and it fit in the overhead without any issues. I think I might have even been able to fit it under my seat. Anyway, the guitar is perfect for travel due to the size. And for the price, I really don't think you'll find a better guitar for travel, so I'll give it that. I have a few guitars at home so I wasn't playing this one every day. For the last 5 weeks, I've been playing it for at least an hour a day, so I've got to know it pretty well. I don't like the tone of it. Comparing to my full size Taylor, it just doesnt match up. To be fair, I don't know what 3/4 guitar you can get for ~$200 that will. I'm also 6'4 so I'm pretty large, and I find myself hunching over it. Almost feels like a Ukulele. However, the fretboard plays smooth, it travels extremely well, it's durable, and the KOA does look very nice. I'd say I'd go with the Taylor GS, but for almost 3x the price, i think this Martin is a better choice. 4 stars due to tonality

    I hated to have to click the thumbs-down button on constant tuning. I have played the new instrument enough hours that the strings should be broken in but the D and G just won't hold their tuning. Otherwise a beautiful addition to my collection. The sound is incredible and it plays very nicely. I'll be using this one for my daughter to learn play. I am beyond thrilled with this little treasure!

    I retired and wanted to have a smaller guitar to take along on trips as I miss playing when I'm away from home for a while. I purchased the Koa mainly because all of my acoustics are natural and wanted something different. The top really vibrates in a nice way. It's sound isn't as bright as a full size, but I want to change to d'addario strings as I'm not a fan of Martin strings. As it's played and ages it will get better from my experience. It sounds better than I thought it would for the price.
