Martin

Description

The Martin HD-35 Standard acoustic guitar combines old-world craftsmanship with modern playability. This solid-wood dreadnought acoustic guitar delivers the resonant tone, volume and punch that Martin guitars are renowned for. The HD-35 Standard pairs a solid spruce top with East Indian rosewood back and sides, using Martin's signature Scalloped Forward Shifted X-bracing to produce a driving sound suited to any playing style.

Vintage-Inspired Materials Meet Modern Construction

The HD-35 Standard's materials and construction blend vintage appeal with contemporary design. Its solid spruce top and rosewood body produce a warm, balanced tone, while its modified low oval neck and 1.75" nut width provide comfortable playability. Forward-shifted, scalloped 1/4" X-bracing allows the top to vibrate freely, resulting in a loud, punchy sound with superb note definition. An authentic vintage look comes from details like zig-zag back purfling, faux tortoiseshell pickguard, and antique white binding with herringbone inlay.

Premium Components for Premium Sound

To craft an instrument worthy of Martin's legacy, no detail was spared. The HD-35 Standard features an ebony fingerboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle and enclosed chrome tuners. Its hand-fit dovetail neck joint and gloss lacquer finish display masterful craftsmanship. Each component contributes to an acoustic guitar that projects with clarity and resonance, serving the needs of performers and recording artists.

Hardcase Protection for Your Investment

Bundled with a hardshell case, the HD-35 Standard arrives ready to transport and protect. The case's sturdy construction safeguards against dings, dents and environmental damage so you can take your HD-35 Standard anywhere inspiration strikes.

I've owned a lot of guitars including a couple of Martin standards but I've never had a playing experience as nice as this. The open D is exhilarating and is the "tone in your head" (yes, I'm inside your head) but the entire tonal spectrum is excellent. The low end is substantial and you might consider it a little woofy, as I've heard it described elsewhere, but I wouldn't change it a bit. In fact the first thing it made me want to do is lean into it, playing in drop D. When in store and ultimately purchasing this guitar, I played a lot of others including various 28s and the 2025 HD35 and even with long dead strings on this 2024 HD35, none of the others were contenders, except I did also particularly like the 2024 000-18. I was acutally shopping for a 000 but the 35 could not be ignored. Perhaps because of the binding and no volute, this is the most comfortable Martin neck I've played as well. It does not feel too small which has been my typical experience. It is also not chunky. I don't mind bigger necks but for my average size man hands, this one feels great. Though they function fine, I proably will change the tuners just because I prefer the look of the vintage tuners that come on other standards.

After playing guitar for almost 50 years, I finally obtained a job that afforded me the opportunity to purchase, what has turned out to be, the best sounding guitar I've owned. She is so responsive to how you play, dig in for more volume, ease up for someone else's lead.. she does not disappoint. I'm in awe every time I play it. Even my picking buddies are blow away by her. Saddle was a little high, but after a good set up, she plays like she sounds...beautiful.

In 1974 a friend of mine got a '65 Brazilian rosewood HD-35 for Christmas. I have wanted one ever since. I have played for 50 years and owned many fine instruments, all the names you know. IMHO this is the BEST acoustic guitar made by anyone! It's drop-dead beautiful, sounds extremely deep and rich, plays like butter, and being all-solid-wood, ages very well. Truthfully it is also a source of great pride of ownership, always recognized by those who are "in the know" about fine guitars. It IS expensive (and how!) but worth every penny. I suggest waiting for the 48-month, no-interest financing.

I am 55 and I've been playing for over a year and have a Taylor Academy. I tried many guitars in this price range. I even did a blind listen test and the Martin stood out above them all. The tone and resonance of this thing is so clear pleasing to the ear. It's a lot bigger than my Taylor and not as comfortable, but I have adjusted to the size. This was a good decision and no regrets. Now I have to get nylon string guitar to add to the burgeoning collection...lol

In the description the the Lighter X brace designed. To allow for more volume somewhat worries me that support may have been sacrificed to allow the increase in volume ( which I would welcome as a perk indeed) how much support would be sacrificed if any?

Support has not been sacrificed in order to achieve this lighter brace
