The guitar you cant put down...
I played guitars at GC and did my research for about 3 months to get the best feel for each model and make before letting an HD28 pick me out. I played mostly Taylors, Gibsons and Martins. There are qualities I liked in all three. I really liked the low end on the Taylor cedar tops, and the playability and looks of the gibsons. I have always been partial to Gibson after playing a 1980 Heritage Les Paul for 30 years. But I kept coming back to the Martin HD28 to compare everything else to. I just could not find its equal in tone, clarity, sustain, and power. The HD28 has that beautiful warm and rich midrange punch I love so much in acoustic guitars. And the Martin HD28 far surpasses anything else in its price range. This is the guitar I have waited all my life for. Recomendations if you are lucky enough to land an HD28: Keep her hummidified to around 45% as much as you can. I like Elixir medium gage nanoweb pb strings on her the best. Thank You Martin!! Great Guitar!!

Watch for "bellying" below the bridge.
These are beautiful (delicate) instruments. The sound of the HD-28 is deep and rich and I have not played another guitar that is it's rival. That being said, check the serial numbers of the GC inventory and you will find that they are old and have started "bellying" below the bridge. This warping is, I believe, due and improper storage environment. One of the three I purchased was authorized for a neck reset by Martin at an approved service center. I returned it and opted for a standard D-28 with standard bracing and a 2,000,000+ serial number. Scalloped bracing yields a great sound but the instruments are more delicate and must be cared for properly. Simply place a straight edge below the bridge to detect the warping. The bridge drifts higher in relation to the fret board and eventually cannot be lowered enough. The fix is to reset the neck but the warp is still there. Martin Guitar care and feeding describes the temp and humidity limitations. Buyer beware and thank God for GC's return policy.

After doing my due diligence, I finally landed on the Martin HD-28 Aged Toner. What a guitar. It plays like a dream and sounds even better! I own 12 other acoustic guitars and this is my second Martin. It is by far the best sounding and playing instrument I own. I can't recommend this guitar enough! Purchased it at Guitar Center in Dublin Ca. Great staff and always a good experience dealing with them....

I owned an Martin HD-28, and still own a Martin D-35 50 year anniversary. I definitely rate the HD-28 a 1 star, and the D-35 is barely better. Anyone who knows Martin, knows the price of these are over $3,000. After only about 7 years, the back, and top glue around the body were coming apart. Have a less expensive Alvarez out of case, that this did not happen to.

This beautiful musical instrument is fine art. It's construction is perfect. The fit and finish are impeccable. It plays beautifully with a neck and fingerboard that are perfectly shaped and flawlessly finished. The sound is the finest I've ever heard. Even the case is perfect! Martin lives up to the reputation. Chris and MF handled the transaction perfectly.

This is the real deal. I have owned a few Dreadnaught acoustic guitars which I thought sounded great. The Martin just blows them all away. The bottom end and clarity of each note is remarkable. The HD28 is the benchmark acoustic Dreadnaught.

Can the open tuners be exchanged for closed tuners? Other than the open tuners it seems great to me.
I would recommend taking this to a store and having a Guitar Tech switch the tuners. But yes, it should be able to be done.
