Martin Guitar Nazareth Factory Tour Part 1

Martin Guitar Nazareth Factory Tour Part 2

Description
The Martin D-16E acoustic electric guitar is a performance ready dreadnought that sings with beautifully balanced tone. It features a solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and Fishman Matrix VT Enhance NT2 electronics. The D-16E's dreadnought body pumps out full, articulate sound with superb projection. Its comfortable, modified, low, oval neck profile and 25.4" scale length provide a familiar feel for most players. The D-16E is an all-solid dreadnought that delivers iconic Martin tone and quality.
Solid Sitka Spruce Top Radiates Rich Tone
The D-16E's solid spruce top generates balanced, resonant tone with shimmering highs and tight lows. As the top ages, it opens up and becomes more complex. Spruce is a prized tonewood for its strength, lightweight nature and ability to produce volume.
Rosewood Back and Sides Pump Out Robust Sound
East Indian Rosewood back and sides complement the spruce top, adding warmth, depth and sustain. Rosewood produces a balanced timbre that suits many musical styles. Its dense grain helps project sound while also absorbing unwanted overtones.
Fishman Matrix VT Enhance NT2 Pickup Captures Natural Acoustic Tone
The Fishman pickup system captures the D-16E's rich acoustic voice for amplified performance or recording. It features an under-saddle piezo pickup and sound hole-mounted preamp with volume and tone controls. The Matrix VT delivers the guitar's true tonal nuances and natural resonance through an amplifier or PA system.
Premium Components and Time-Tested Martin Craftsmanship
The D-16E features a modified low, oval neck profile, rosewood fretboard and bridge, and chrome tuners. Martin's time-honored mortise and tenon neck joint and dovetail body joint ensure stability and tone. Each D-16E undergoes Martin's rigorous quality testing and setup before leaving the factory.

Very Pleased with Purchase
I bought this instrument used from Guitar Center. It is, 'sort of', a replacement for a D-35 that was, very sadly, destroyed in an accident. While it is not a D-35, it is a spruce top/rosewood back combination. I have "too many" guitars and couldn't justify the $3K-$6K cost to buy a D-28 or D-35. This instrument is very (emphasis on very) pleasant to play. It has surprisingly deep low-end tone even though the body is a little shallower than, typical, Martin dreadnaughts. The mids and highs remain articulate and well defined without being harsh or strident. The electronics are capable and natural without noticeable piezo "honk". The output is not exceptionally strong but there is almost no feedback and volume is what amps are for, anyway. My only criticism would be the finish on the back of the neck. Actually, I had the same issue with the D-35. Martin seems to finish their necks with a thick, almost gummy, product that doesn't agree with my thumb (I think it's just me and not Martin). However, less than an hour of wet sanding with 1500 grit sandpaper left the back of the neck with a beautiful sheen and "butter smooth". For those seeking the Martin experience, but resistant to the price points of the 18's, 28's and 35's, this (and its mahogany back sibling) are excellent entry options. They are the lowest priced guitars built in Nazareth, PA (USA) and the build quality is exceptional as should be expected. The appointments are 'modest' with very little in terms of fancy inlays or exotic hardware, but it is a solid, honest, acoustic guitar that plays and sounds superb. New is always good, but there are wonderful used examples also available. I purchased a 1-year protection plan 'just in case'.

It's nice but.....
Finally got a Martin made in Nazareth, PA. The reviews were right on down to the smell of wood the first time you opened the case. Sounds sweet unplugged. The feel of the neck and the action couldn't be better. Not as loud as a full bodied dreadnought as expected. When I plugged it in my Fishman Loud Box Artist, I was blown away. It made me hear what this amp was really made for. But here's the problem. After a few minutes of strumming the guitar and enjoying the sound, the 1E string rolled off the edge of the fret. I ignored it and kept playing because the sound was so good. But then it happened again in less than 20 minutes of playing. Both times happened on the third fret so I looked at it closely. I pressed the string and lightly pushed it down and it easily rolled off the edge. I've been a guitar player for well over 40 years and the last time I had this issue was with a guitar with a badly replaced frets & fretboard. I don't know if this is just a defect on this particular D-16e guitar or the design is just not right for me. Either way I'm not happy with it so I returned it. It used to be when people ask me about Martin guitars, I tell them if it's made in Nazareth, PA you can never go wrong. That's a myth to me now. It may be a one in a million thing, but if you're that guy in a million, it's a world view changing experience. What else do I believe in that's not really true?

I have 3 Martin guitars. The D16 is an affordable version of the D28 and D18. It is thinner than the D28 so it easier for me to play. Like all Martins, it smells great. It has the great Martin sound and is easy to play. I play with The Music Village jammers and occasional with others. I like the look of the Rosewood.
Got a good one!

I have tried other guitars of similar, same, and other brands and have found that even same guitars might not play the same. Play them and check them closely! I say this because I have paid more and gotten less. This D16E rosewood plays really well! Sounds good, plays well…I really like it!
Great Martin for the money

Super fun to play. Body is shallower but still has great tone and deep low end, mids/highs are clean and balanced. Great build quality, tapered neck makes it very easy to play if you have smaller hands. Simple, beautiful looking instrument. No hard case, but the soft case is also beautiful and well made. Very happy

Very nice guitar. The rosewood back and sides give a nice, bright, classic-sounding tone. If you're in a wheelchair or just prefer to play guitar sitting down, the 000 depth of this dreadnought shaped guitar is very comfortable. The neck is also very comfortable and easy to move around on. Highly recommended.
