  • THE Standard Of Comparison

The Martin dreadnoughts are the ORIGINAL dreadnought guitars going back to the models made for the Oliver Ditson Company in 1916. Since then, when ANYONE else comes up with a "new" high-end dreadnought guitar it gets compared to the Martin dreadnought models D-18, D-28 and HD-28. That says a lot for those who want to hear it. I own a "re-imagined" D-18 and a "re-imagined" HD-35 and love them both! Their quality is second-to-none in workmanship, rich tone, and smooth, easy action. In my 55 years of playing acoustic guitar, I have come to believe that Martins are THE standard of comparison for a VERY GOOD REASON! You can't go wrong with a classic Martin.

You simply cannot beat D18. The sound, the feel, the playability, the tone, it's still a legend.

  • Not as good as my 1948 D-18 with Adirondack Spruce

I tried last year's model, but was unimpressed. My newest Martin is a '64 D-28 in Brazilian Rosewood & Adirondack Spruce. Everything since then has been handmade by selected luthiers (Bourgeois, Dudenbostel, Manzer, etc). Martin is king of the mass market, but can't touch luthiers.
