Upscale appointments

Martin dresses up the 00-28 with European flame maple binding, a feature previously limited to Custom Shop guitars. The same flame appears on the heelcap and endpiece. A bold herringbone inlay surrounds the soundboard; fretboard inlays are abalone diamonds and squares. Gold EVO frets complement the gold, open-gear butterbean tuners. Martin tops off the headstock with a ’30s-style logo inlaid with pearl.

A new guitar that doesn't sound like it

Martin ages the Sitka spruce top on the 00-28 acoustic using its Vintage Tone System (VTS). By heating the tonewood at a high temperature—a process known as torrefaction—the soundboard becomes molecularly similar to one made decades earlier. You'll hear it ring with more resonance. To play the Modern Deluxe is to travel back in time.

Modern updates

The neck profile on the Martin 00-28 is based on an extremely rare acoustic in the company's archives—a 1930 OM-45 Deluxe. That historic guitar has a slight asymmetrical neck shape that's surprisingly contemporary, making it a perfect fit for the 00-28 acoustic guitar. The High Performance Taper on the ebony fingerboard contributes to a fast, comfortable playing experience. In another break with the past, the Martin Modern Deluxe comes with Liquidmetal bridge pins that reflect energy instead of absorbing it, boosting output by 3db to 5dB. The bridge plate is just as advanced. Made of carbon fiber, it's lighter and stronger than maple for even more projection and sustain. 

Other features include a multi-stripe back inlay, plus a bone nut and saddle. The Martin 00-28 Modern Deluxe comes with a hardshell case.
