Terrific Amp

I bought this amp about 3 hours ago. I'm just getting back into playing after more than 30 years. I did alot of research and tried a few amps before deciding on this one. For my purposes, basically playing for fun in my home, it's great. It has quite a bit of power, extra features that were important to me such as the MP3 and headphone inputs, and the special effects sound terrific. The price tag sealed the deal for me. I bought a Gibson Les Paul Studio too and the two pieces of equipment sound really great together. If you're like me and want something loud but not too loud and are looking for those cool special effects in equipment with a respected name, I highly recommend this amp.

Not the greatest $200 amp...

First off, I would like to say that this amp can recreate that warm sound that classic Marshall amps create. However, that's pretty much the only sound you can get out of it. It doesn't really have a whole lot of gain, so you really can't play much of anything that requires high gain. Also, the tone doesn't have much of a crunch to it, no matter what kind of guitar you use. If you really want high gain, I would suggest buying a distortion pedal, like a Boss DS-1. Another major issue with it is that it was built very poorly. Within the first week of having it, the gain knob stopped working. Also, whenever the volume is 3/4 of the way up, the signal randomly cuts off. So overall, it can create a warm sound, but there isn't much gain, the tone has no crunch, and it is not built very well. I would recommend a Line 6 more than this amp.

This marshall was definately a step up in my opinion, for such a small amp, it had a lot of output and tone to it, i remember the day i first got it. i only have one complaint, the plastic input broke one day, well, not actually broke, but it slipped because of the few threads that held it in place, if you accidentally take your cable out of the amp wrong, you will make the nut slip, causing the input to fall inside the amp. meaning you will have to take the amp apart. usually things like these can be replaced with a metal, better input that wont break or slip.

I'm getting back into music after a 20 year break and needed something to practice and record with. The Marshall 30 watt is exactly what I needed. Easy to carry around, more than enough volume for recording, and the built in effects are a nice added feature! Not to mention the ability to plug in an MP3 device and use headphones for quiet practice if needed. The silver looks much better in person than I expected and it seems to be a very durable amp. I'd also like to add, the delivery was pretty quick as well.

  • good, but watch the overdrive

This amp was pretty good and pretty much worth the money, but if you're looking for an amp with good distortion, make sure you have a distortion pedal with it, because the amp itself wonۡt cut it. Both overdrive channels are pretty weak, and the overdrive 2 setting has a very dirty sound to it that isnۡt pretty. The clean setting is good, and crunch is pretty much about overdrive 1, which isnۡt bad, but then again, won't cut it. The chorus, flanger, phaser, and delay are cool to have, and make a significant difference to each sound, especially flanger and phaser. The amp itself is not too heavy, and I feel that its definitely loud enough. i recommend using this with a boss ds1 distortion pedal, since that is what I use, and it gives a good led zeppelin sound, if thatۡs what youۡre looking and doesnۡt become too dirty. So just watch the overdrive because youۡre going to need more than that, and look for good distortion pedals with it. Also, the looks are nice in the silver, and it is still cool to look at even after a few months with it.

This is a very, very high quality amp. The MG30FX boosts many features and the sound it makes is truly amazing. The sound quality is excellent not to mention the effects that it comes with. I recently bought this amp and it sounds wonderful with my new American Special Strat. I had to exchange mine though cause I favored the Fender Mustang II amp for its ease of use and the cool features it comes with, but don't get me wrong, the MG30FX is probably one of the best amps within this price range and performs like an expensive one. When I get another chance, I'll probably run back to GC Hollywood and buy it back.

I was looking for a neutral sounding amp that I could plug in effects or a single coil guitar and get the true tone of the instrument without all kinds of hum and other garbage. I learned that without the 4 button footswitch the amp was a bit unmanageable, but with the pedal all kinds of sound can be conjured up giving you a large pallette of clean and distorted signal. I wanted to use 2 amps 1 for dry and 1 for effect and found I might have to buy a second one as nothing compares to it. I am very pleased with it and highly recommend it to anyone interested in a small combo amp.
