Marshall DSL20HR 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head

Description
Adjustable Power Output
The DSL models feature adjustable power settings, which delivers all-valve tone and feel, at any volume, from bedroom to stage. This technology adjusts power to the valves, instead of just turning off valve stages, allowing the amp to remain articulate and dynamic.
EQ Refinements
Some innovative tweaks to the EQ circuitry have given the new DSLs even greater tonal flexibility. The EQ section of the new DSLs can deliver exactly what your ears are looking for.
Emulated Output
Marshall's partnership with Softube has led to the creation of award-winning plug-ins, as well as exceptional tone in its CODE digital amps. The same team is responsible for the development of the new emulated output feature, found in the DSL series. Both the headphone out, and line out on the DSL models boast incredibly accurate emulation of Marshall's famed 1960 cabinet.
Reverb, Resonance and Master Volume
The DSL is now more versatile than ever, with features including discrete master volume controls for each channel, built-in reverb and resonance controls (the DSL1 and DSL5 do not offer resonance controls).
New Models
Additions to the range include the DSL1 head and combos, which offer all-valve Marshall DSL tone in a smaller package, plus a DSL20 combo and head.

Marshall or Nothing.
Great sounding amp. Both the Classic Gain and Ultra Gain channels are very usable. There is plenty of headroom on the clean channel (speaking from bedroom level playing of course), but will provide that classic, warm distortion you expect from a Marshall when cranked up. The distortion channel is not overly distorted or harsh, and is great for producing those modern rock sounds. The resonance and presence knobs are great for shaping difference sounds depending on what you are looking for. The tone shift button seems to be a mid scoop. The reverb knob is ok. Like what others have said, it's pretty weak until you turn it up a bit. Personally I like it that way because it gives you the ability to add just a hint of reverb when you are not wanting it to be overpowering. The effects loop is a really nice feature. And that you have the ability to switch the effects loop on and off with the pedal. The amp its self is put together really well and it's nice to see that the pedal is made of metal and not cheap plastic. Overall I really like this amp and not disappointed one bit.

I bought 2 of these heads to drive Marshall MX12 cabinets. I was previously using 2 Marshall DSL40CR combo amps. I thought I could save space by having the small heads instead. I was wrong. FYI, the DSL40CR amps sound great (mine are upgraded with Creamback speakers). First off, the amps both had horrific white noise when you turned up the reverb. 2) one amp made some weird static noise when you moved your hand around the face plate, touching the face plate actually changed the tone. I have never in my almost 30 years of using guitar amps had this. 3) The amps sounded thin and tinny. To the point they were unusable. I returned them for a refund and when both amps arrived at Musicians Friend, they stated that they only received one amp (although both amps arrived the same day). A day later the 2ne amp was marked as received. I received one amps refund on Saturday, and now I guess I have to wait till Monday for the second refund. What a joke. BTY, I also ordered a brand new EHX pedal when I bought the amps and they sent me a used one instead! Musicians Friend is such a joke now a days it's sad.

Looked at the 100 watt version with a 4 x 12 cabinet. This 20 watt amp in a 2 x 12 is plenty loud for my use. Attenuation to 10 Watts has volume and tone. Got the full tube experience instead of a bigger amp played at 3.

I got this in my mid teens and I still use it as my primary amp. It's definitely best for some kind of rock, since there is a huge amount of gain. Both channels are great, I especially like ultra gain. The most diverse EQ that I have ever seen/heard. Amazing amp, and if you're on the fence... Get It!

This far exceeded my expectations. This gets great tone even st low volume. I was expecting a tube Amp that I would have to crank up the volume to get the sound I wanted, but I was wrong this even b sounds good at low volume too.
Dead on arrival

Was dead on arrival. Would only turn on intermittently at first then died completely. Checked the fuse, power tubes and cable but still wouldn't turn on. These lower end tube Marshalls have QC issues. I also own an Origin 20 and had to replace a faulty input jack a few weeks into owning it.

I just ordered this head and matching 2 /12 cabinet, does it come with foot switch to change channels? Because it does with Sweetwater they were out of stock , so I went to local GC and paid $200 more for it because they offer a bundle package , but I'm not going to be happy if it doesn't come with a foot switch, after paying$200 more!
Yes it does come with the PEDL-90012 Footswitch.submitted4 years ago

What Marshall cabinet under $400 would go good with the amp?
This amp head would work well with most 1X12 or 2X12 cabinets. Unfortunately, we don't carry any Marshall cabinets in this price range.submitted6 years ago
