I stumbled across the JF1 having no clue Markbass was building basses. I just had to look at this white bass that was hanging up high on the wall! I love the PBass shape, unique color matched headstock, fretboard blocks/binding and the roadworn finish so it easily won me over with the unique looks. The bass was very light at 8.1lbs. The Italian spruce body is to thank. The hard maple j-width neck adds a tad neck dive but when playing you don't really notice. The one issue I had was with the extremely flat fretboard. It required adjustments to my technique since my primary bass had a very round fretboard. But there are benefits to the flatness, so it's all good. The bass has a beefy jazz tone that's big yet with the mid-rangy presence that we all like. The MB three band EQ is powerful and has a lot of useful tones although I typically set up my tone and leave it there and dial up the treble as the strings lose their zing over time. I've played with the active and passive settings and like them both. The bands I play benefit from both settings. I didn't need another bass but I had to get this Markbass JF1. It looks great, plays great, and sounds awesome! I'm very happy.
