Mahalo

Description

The Mahalo Hibiscus Kalimba has a rich musical history stretching back some 3,000 years to the Shona people of Zimbabwe, Southern Africa. Of close relation to the ancient Mbira, the Kalimba has been an important part of African music and culture for thousands of years. Today, the bell-like tone of the Kalimba has even harmonics and a rich, warm tone that blends well with modern music. The compact size makes it an ideal travel instrument.

I purchased this Mahalo kalimba and am very pleased with it. It has a lovely tone, and I wanted to go back to basics, with a 17 key box kalimba. It arrived quickly, and Guitar Center is a pleasure to deal with. End keys will not resonate much, but that is the nature of a box kalimba, due to the shortness of the end tines, not the product. The suade bag leaves a lot to be desired though. The material is rather rough, and has no padding, so no protection. It did come in a very nicely designed sturdy box, so I will keep it in that. Overall I'm really pleased with the product. It's a nice change from the clear sounding but sterile sound of the Hokema kalimbas I have, and the overly reverberating 41 key Seeds.
