Unexpected Bonus

I use this mixer in my university's radio station to control my mic and the guests' mics. However, after playing hours of music through this mixer to go to broadcast, and listening through good headphones, I've noticed something odd about this series of mixers. The headphone amp is SUPERB. Listening to my songs while running my show is a real treat, as I notice an incredible increase in clarity and dynamic range. My method involves an insert Y-cable going out of my iPod Classic, into one of the stereo TRS inputs, and plugging my headphones straight into the board. Remember, this little quirk of the board is IN ADDITION to all the terrific praise people have heaped on it. It DOES have excellent headroom. It DOES have low noise. Most importantly for me though, it DOES make mixing and listening a total pleasure.

I purchased this mixer for my live "In Ear" monitor setup. You hear what pre's really sound like when using in ears, and let me just say that they are Warm, Crisp, Quiet and most of all transparent. This board is small, but don't let the size fool you... This little guys acts like its bigger brothers and left me with no desire to find anything else to do the job. My 1st favorite thing about this mixer is the pure sound... my 2nd is the "headroom." Mackie pushes levels super high before any noise, distortion, etc. You wont find a better mixer (at this size) anywhere else. If you need 4 mic pre's and 12 channels, stop looking at reviews and just BUY ONE!

They did an awesome job setting this up as intuitivetly as possible. But definately read the manual anyway if you're new to Mackie boards. The 1202 has a versitility that my old board lacked. I was a little apprehensive about there not being any sliders, but the knobs all refrence directly to dBs and have unity at the center position; which gives me a nice visual refrence. The sound quality is very transparent through all the outputs, so feel free to explore the multitude of set-up possibilties this board offers. But I think the best feature would have to be the microphone pre-amps. I've run a variety of singers and singing styles through this board in the last few weeks and they all sounded great(Thanks in-part to the Shure 58). Worth every penny
