Just added these to my Meinl Slap Top Cajon and they sound great. They're fastened with Velcro to the left and right sides close to me and I can get to them any time. They don't sound like a true castenet but instead like a loud, fast stapler, which is close enough for me.

  • Spring is Too Strong

I brought one of these home from my local Guitar Center, but I'm returning it. Because of the strong spring, you must hit it quite hard to compress the spring and get a sound. This means that you can't vary the volume by hitting it lightly. It also makes an unwanted click when it returns to the open position. In comparison, the Meinl ring castanet (that I own) uses elastic and is very sensitive to touch, enabling soft or loud playing. However, the ring castanet attaches to my finger and I'm looking for something to attach to my cajon. I'll keep shopping.

This is great to add to any Cajon! It lets you be more versatile when playing. I added a Small and Medium Size to my Cajon and they sound amazing together!
