MEINL Percussion Cocktail Cajon Kit - PBASSCAJ-KIT

MEINL

collapse expand iconDescription

Play a huge range of percussive sounds with the MEINL Cocktail Cajon Kit, all with wood cajon-style instruments. An acoustic take on a cocktail kit set up, players can produce sounds from bass and snare to bongo cajons and a tom. At the center of this kit is the MEINL Cocktail Cajon, which is played just like a kick drum. Made to be mounted on the Cocktail Cajon are the included MEINL Pickup Snare, Bongo Cajon (with high and low pitch notes), and Pickup Tom Tap, which all come together to give you a full cajon set sound. Each of these three add-ons include their own L-shaped rod that attach to the cajon with standard eye-bolt mounts.

In addition to the cajon-style drums, this kit also comes with a foot pedal and soft foam cajon beater. It also includes special Husk Brushes that are safe to use on the wood finishes. The brushes deliver a mellow, yet precise, percussive sound. Every drum in the Cocktail Cajon Kit is outfitted with its own Piezo pickup and high-quality output jack so you can plug in and turn the volume up on the whole set when extra amplification is needed (audio cables not included).

Let me start out by saying Meinl makes quality instruments. I purchased this as an alternative to playing a traditional Cajon and this turned out to be a huge disappointment. The entire piece feels like a toy. The tone of the individual pieces do not sound good or project acoustically. Also there was a lot of buzzing coming through the pickups. Not sure why they used plastic parts for the individual mounts either. With that said, there is a lot potential for set ups like this and I hope instruments like this improve to give drummers more options for acoustic gigs.

I've been enjoying this drum set. It has good sound and I love how it includes snare, tom, bass, and bongo. It fits perfectly into my small house that doesn't have room for a full size drum set. I like how I can put it into my mixer or Spire Studio and then to headphones so that it doesn't bother others around me by how loud it is. Something I wish it had was an instruction manual on how to put it together, and how to get the sound out. I was able to figure it out, but there were several times where I wish there was an instruction manual. It would also be nice if this drum set came with cables to hook it up with so, you could have the sound.

Does the meinl cocktail cajon kit still sound good when it is not amped up, or does it only work well if it is plugged in?

It sounds great. It's designed as an acoustic instrument. The amplification came later.
