The Black Beauty Snare Drum is constructed of a single sheet of brass that is machine drawn and spun into a seamless beaded shell, then nickel-plated with a beautifully exquisite finish. An American original, the Black Beauty provides a warm, round metallic tone that is often imitated, but never duplicated. However, due to their truly unique and difficult manufacturing process, only a limited number of Black Beauties is available each year from Ludwig USA.

The 80-year tradition of the Ludwig Black Beauty carries on as the ultimate snare drum in the industry.

    Great drum. Used with Remo Ambassador heads, has a relatively dry sound for a metal snare. Very responsive and sensitive, but not ringy and overbright. Also, although I tend to use it at a looser tension for a deeper dryer sound, it doesn't bottom out on hard hits and has great rim shots. Overall, a great drum for small group acoustic jazz situations. Thinking of trying it with a 12 strand snare for an even dryer sound.
