Dizzying array of sounds!

I bought the Toneport UX1 from Guitar Center after seeing an online ad for RiffWorks, a simple recording & composing program that can be bought bundled with GuitarPort. I bought the Toneport instead because it has a mic in; otherwise, the software that comes with it is the same (no RiffWorks - I bought that seperately). Very easy to set up, worked flawlessly on my PC (CAUTION- *requires* XP service pack II). I plugged in my newly purchased Squier Bullet, and began playing around. The sound that is produced is EXTRAORDINARY! The Gearbox software that comes with it has a graphical interface that shows a signal path with EVERY POSSIBLE effect box (distortion, modulation, delay, etc) plus about 30 different amp/cabinet combinations. And everything is graphically represented by pictures of the actual gear - you simply 'adjust' the knobs just as you would if it were in front of you. It's as if you were in the music store and could grab any amp, stomp box, etc. and play with them to your hearts content. Best of all, they sound incredibly authentic! I tried a few combinations of gear I already owned, and could not hear a difference. If you dont want to spend all your time fooling around with settings, there are about 50 'pre-sets' that are terrific, some of them mimicing the setup (AND SOUND!) of popular songs or signature sounds. All in all, a terrific product - if you like to experiment with different effects, amps, etc., and particularly if you are recording on your PC. Highly recommended!!

Some Problems

I have had 2 of UX1 interfaces. I have been somewhat unimpressed with my purchase and in fact am about to trade mine in for something better. I had problems with the electrical current picking up in the recording. There was a consistent clicking that kept showing up and I'm certain that it was a current coming through the cords. I just think for the type of stuff I was recording was too much for this interface. If you're going to spend the $130 I would just buy a board with a USB built in. It will be worth your money.

I got this system to work with garageband on my mac. Works amazing and has great sound quality. The amps that they give you are very well designed. You can also make your own sounds from a huge variety. GET THIS!!!!!!

I'm playing a Gibson SG special, Marshall AS50D amp, and the TonePort UX1 connected to a macbook. This thing is really cool. I am a beginner (been learning for about 6 months now), and this is exactly what I was looking for. I am using the UX1 on a Macbook, and it was very easy to configure. The preloaded array of effects and equipment are incredible, any sound you want to feed your monitor is there. I prefer to use 'Garage band' over the free recording software, but the 'Gear Box' is really cool and very easy to use. I am studying Angus Young to start, and I was able to pull down his set-up from GuitarPort and it sounded great.

I've had this for a year now. It's hard to think of a con considering that you virtually have any tone possible in gearbox. I use the variety of effects for my praise team and the ability to switch effects without standalone pedals, while sounding professional, is so handy. There is one con in that if you're hooked up on a slow computer, it will occasionally give you the annoying white noise sound. But overall, i hook up my guitar and mic (for voice effects, as well) while performing live and i haven't heard any complaints yet (only praise :])! when i'm home, i connect the line out to my home theatre system with a 1/4" to rca adapter but i use my amp as well. Another minor thing is that i don't know if i can control the wah with a cheap usb pedal or if i need a dedicated wah :/ i need it for this sunday too. anyways, its a great buy if you're on a budget and if you want to play with different types of effects.

I got this just looking for a component to get my instruments into my pc and this does precisely that. But it comes with Gearbox software which allows you to get all these amazing tones from your guitar. I was very impressed. I constantly enjoy tinkering with it. Someone said it wasn't durable because they dropped it and it broke. I have yet to test that one because personally, I like to try and keep my things nice. Anybody can work the toneport and it's great for recording your inspired music and your full-length songs.

All I wanted was something that would allow me to record some stuff to my computer, and this product made it happen. The features are pretty boss, GearBox is fun to play with, and the recording software that came with it is really easy to use. I have never recorded anything in my life, and I threw down a tune with guitar, vocals, and harmonica today in about 15 minutes. Yes, it's really that easy.
