Line6 POD HD400

Description
HD amp modeling: sound and feel like never before
HD amp models defy the accepted standard. They feel, behave, and interact with previously unachievable realism.
Creating these new HD amp models was no small feat. Line 6 mixed 15 years of amp modeling experience with 3 years of new research and development to build an entirely new amp modeling technology from the ground up. During that time, we hunted down 16 incredible amplifiers and”with the help of LA's top tube amp experts”restored each one back to peak condition. The new modeling technology uses 10 times more amplifier information than before, including single-ended class A tube stages, class AB push/pull interactions, power supply behavior, and more. The result is a high-quality warmth, feel, sustain, and articulation for you to fall in love with.
Tube amp fanatics have long enthused that their favorite stacks and combos aren't merely "amps," but instruments themselves, with playability equal to that of the guitar plugged into them. New HD modeling takes the POD HD experience to that same exalted level, capturing the genuine playability that great guitarists demand.

Sweet!!!!
Got this about 3 weeks ago and I love it. While I have no use for some of the amps and half the effects, the ability to customize my tone in my headphones then playing live through our system without ANY change in sound is the best. I've heard some complaints about not enough distortion. Let me just say, use the editing software and check out the custom tone section of the line6 site to checkout others custom tones. You may have to make some adjustments, but you'll find what you're looking for.

This version of the POD HD is not worth buying! The only differences between it and the hd300 is that it has an effects loop for adding addition effects (which is pretty much useless because all the effects you need are on this) and maybe twenty more effects, none of which you will need. I would save a hundred dollars and just buy the hd300, or pay a hundred extra for the hd500, which has much more possibilities of modifying tone, ect. I hope I was helpful

First of all, this pedal board is big. I thought it wasn't that big but is very big, so check the dimensions first if you don't want any surprises. The presets are all sub par. I didn't go that far but maybe if you create your own presets it might sound a little better. The effects (FX) are ok, the chorus is ok, the flanger, phaser are ok, the delay is ok and there is a bunch of almost-useless effects that you probably never heard in any music in your life. So let's go to the point, in my case I wanted a pedal only for the FXs because I already have a distortion pedal and for the price I don't really think it worth the money. There are 3 banks of effects and you can't use 2 effects of the same bank at the same time, wich you CAN do with the HD500. I think the HD400 just doens't worth the money, go for the HD300 (they are almost the same but cost less), HD500, POD HD Desktop or the one those LINE6 Stompboxes, the M's series (M9, M13).

If you bring home the HD400 and just start "playing" with it, you could easily get frustrated. Instead, hook it up to your computer, download the Line 6 Monkey, and the editor. then sit with your guitar, POD, and computer with a set of headphones on. you can more easily tweek all of your settings on the computer instead of using the small function buttons. Once you have it set up, you export those settings to your POD and it saves. Admittedly, it has no distortion as good as the OD channel on my Marshall head, but the looper is amazing. I recently started playing lead, but this is the best practice tool EVER. you simply loop yourself playing rhythm, then find your lead sound and shred over yourself as long as you want. AWESOME!

I've been a fan of Line6 since using the first Ax2 212. Line6 is the only company that was able to recreate the dynamics, sensitivity and "breathability" of tube amps. All the lower end modelers didn't come close. I feel the POD HD400 is going to last us a long time. So much tonal versatility! I have my favorite models, but they're all pretty neat. I don't use effects very often, and when I do, they're usually to mimic a specific part. That said, the effects are very flexible and sound great. The board is built with great quality and is extremely clean. Much more professional IMO than the busy glitsy Digitech style. Nothing against Digitech, because the RP1000 sounds good on Youtube as well -- just commenting on aesthetics. This is the first piece of gear that I'll use as a direct-out. I've played other processors and guitar amps with DI's and "cabinet simulators" but none have worked out until now. Last Sunday I went straight in with no amp. Monitored via Aviom in-ear system. Extremely convenient! The outputs are well thought-out too -- you get lots of flexibility for whether/not the cab/mic simulation is applied. Line6 should be sending kickbacks to Lincoln Brewster -- I have to think he's selling TONS of boards for them since he puts his POD patches on his website. The fact that Lincoln gets his killer tone from the POD is what tipped the scales for me. I'm a believer! I think Line6 really has their act together with modeling. Also love the editor software. Makes "getting to know" the processor much easier when you can see all the options laid out before you. Lastly, I was very worried I would wish I'd gotten the HD500 instead of the 400, but so far I really can't see the need for more stuff. I appreciate the sound flexibility of the 500, but my taste is pretty simple.

So first off I love this thing. It sounds great through my amp and I am very satisfied. The amp models are pretty good but they are also pretty similar to each other. I can saw that I love the ENGL Fireball model though. The only reason that I didn't give it five stars is that the volume pedal isn't great it is pretty much an on/off pedal.
