Great stompbox. No brainer at this price.

I've owned almost every generation of Line 6 (1.0, 2.0 and X3)and this is the first that could pass as a real stompbox. Previous generations sounded terrible artificial to me. The M5 effects are WAY better than the X3 that came before it. Overdrives aren't so good but it does well for everything else. Something like a Fulltone OCD and one of these is all you need for a basic setup. Just the tuner and modulation or delays make this worth it. Pros: - Easy to use and sounds better than any previous Line 6. - Runs on DC. The M9 and M13 run on dedicated AC adapters. I wanted a remote rig (no wall plug needed) so the M9 and M13 were out. You can run the M5 off a Pedal Juice battery. I run it off a regular pedal power chain and it works fine (although I'm sure Line 6 recommends using theirs). - True bypass. So only engage when you want it. - Tuner. Everyone needs one in their pedal chain. Cons: - Switching presets is awkward. You have to step on both buttons then scroll then double-step again. Makes fast preset changes difficult. - No USB. Updates and saving is through midi cables and I don't have a midi interface on my computer. No excuse for no USB these days. - Dialing in an exact setting is very hard on the tiny knobs. I wanted a 400 ms delay and it was near impossible to be exact. Maybe editing through midi might solve this problem... if I had a midi interface. Overall, given the flexibility, tuner and great sounding delays/modulation effects for the price of a single decent pedal, this is a no-brainer. Definitely worth adding to your pedalboard.

Great pedal!!!!!!!!!....BUT

Well I've had the M5 for 5 months now and it has been working great. The modulations are amazing. I feel in love with the tri-chorus and the univibe so much that either one was almost always on. The delays and reverbs are epic but I would not suggest this for the drives or the compressor. The noise gate that turns on whenever the pedal does a great job and spoiled me with a lack of sizzle when using high gain. This is a great pedal and it was a staple for me when it worked. Now you see I said WHEN it worked. About a month ago it started producing a weird frequency whenever I used some of the patches but others where still clean and random note free. A few weeks ago every single patch has the tone cutting through past whatever I'm playing. Needless to say I cant use it live anymore and definitely not when recording. I love this pedal but at the moment it is utterly useless at the moment. If I can get it fixed it will be back on my board.

Before you buy a ton of pedals, this should be your first purchase. This will give you every pedal effect you could imagine and allows you to pair it with future purchases to determine what's the next pedal purchase. For the price, like I said it should be the first thing you get!! Enjoy, it's a great pedal!!!!!!

Gran variedad de efectos, muy versátil. Lo que no me gustó fue que no se puede usar dos efectos a la vez, pero por el precio me compraría otro. Lo recomiendo usar con un expression pedal.

  • I would buy it again

I'm a rookie but this thing is a blast. I can't stop playing with it. I play an American Special Tele through an Orange Crush 35RT. It sounds pretty awesome to me. I've owned a Line 6 VariAx in the past and loved it. The M5 seems sturdy and well made at least for me. One of my friends heard it and ordered one for himself and he's a "real" guitarist. Anyway, lots of fun .... that's why I play.

The unit works well on my pedalboard and standalone. I run single effects per song on the pedalboard so that I can use it with my other 5 effects at the same time. I would buy the line 6 expression pedal because the one I have does not play well with this pedal.
