Description
Many players want the versatility of a modern DSP-based amp while keeping the simplicity of traditional controls. The Line 6 Catalyst 200 brings those desires together in a 200-watt, dual-channel, 2x12 combo. The Catalyst 200 is ideal for everything from the practice room to large venues, as well as shining in the studio. Combining traditional controls with six original amps designed with their industry-leading HX system, Line 6 delivers the amp guitarists have been dreaming of.

Original Amp Designs
For the Catalyst series, Line 6 has created a half-dozen amp designs from scratch. These amps are carefully crafted using their renowned HX sound design system to create original tonal palettes, shaped by the influence of a bevy of modern and classic amplifiers, but still speaking with their own unique voices. From pristine cleans to massive high-gain roar, these exceptional tones deliver the feel and vibe players have always wanted to master and make their own. Each of the six amp types includes a Boost circuit that is customized individually to make the most of each distinct amp voice. Best of all, thanks to the built-in Power Damping feature, every Catalyst can be run at full-power, half-power or at just a half-watt, so you can always tailor the volume to the venue, without ever having to sacrifice tone.

Versatile Effects Selection
With six types each of reverb, delay, modulation and pitch/filter effects, it's easy to set up powerful signal chains for the Line 6 Catalyst 200, whether the target is vintage vibe or modern ambience. The onboard effects are easily controlled directly from the amp's top panel, or you can dig in even deeper with the free Catalyst Edit app for your desktop or mobile devices. If you want more than the internal effects, the built-in effects loop makes it easy to integrate any external pedals, whether individual or a multi-effects unit like Line 6's HX Stomp. The loop can also be used as a direct power amp input for use with a multi-effects unit like the Helix or to turn the Catalyst into a powered extension cab.

Recording Simplified
The Line 6 Catalyst 200 is as useful in the studio as it is onstage. When connected to your computer by USB, your Catalyst functions as a two-channel audio interface, funneling its outstanding amp and effect tones directly into your DAW. No more microphones, attenuators or angry neighbors, just great recorded guitar tones.
A Great Choice for Any Guitarist
Players in the market for a compact, lightweight amp that can cover a wide range of playing situations, from practice to large venue gigs, will find the Catalyst 200 an excellent choice. With a great balance of features and power, this go-anywhere amp keeps you playing, no matter what your style or genre.

This amp does what you need it to. It has 6 good sounding amp types that make it easy to make a good tone for any genre. Line 6 kept the controls simple while putting in a lot of features. While I like that the amp doesn't have a thousand knobs, I find that is also the only negative I have with this amp. A lot of the controls and features are unlabeled. The effects switching is a bit finnicky with a button hold to activate an unlabeled menu. There's just a few things you have to commit to memory. That is my only annoyance with this amp, and it doesn't affect the sound. It's good sounding, loud, digital amp that can cover any genre of playing. It can be a pedal platform and fill in gaps in your pedal board with the additional on board effects. It's definitely aimed at being a bedroom practice amp, but there's no reason that this couldn't play shows of pretty much any size. It's plenty loud. #sweepstakes

Mainly home/personnel studio. Has many features built in so additional pedals are not required to get many different sounds.

Tried every solid state amp at my guitar center with the help of staff with similar Strat I own. Orange, Marshal, Boss, and a Fender Tone Master Twin Reverb. (Keep in mind I have two tube amps I totally dig. My number 1 a Fender 68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb amp, and a BlackStar HT40) after playing all of them it came down to the $1050 Fender and the $499 Catalyst. Even though I have a Line 6 POD "the bean" I went inexpensive and took the catalyst home. I could not get it to sound like it did at Guitar Center…then tried using it just as a power amp with my POD…eh…it was alright…FOR ME, it just had too much going on..for the price it's a great amp especially if you want to use it's effects. Needless to say I returned it and spent the extra 500 for the Tone Master which I am totally digging, with tweaks to the EQ I can get it to sound 98% of my Vibrolux. If on a budget and need the effects, don't mind what I found, it has a lot going on/bit complicated it should serve you well.

The reviewer has a preference for Fender. I tried a Tone Master. Great cleans but poor when using pedals for gain. For over 1K I'd go tube if thats your thing. So while I like and want clean tones I also want good overdrive. Does this take overdrive and distortion pedals well?
Yes it does. It has a really great clean tone to it that you can really build from.submitted4 years ago

Can it take pedals right in the front or do they have to go through the effects loop?
No, you can run directly to the input. It will sound great.submitted4 years ago

How much does it weigh? Is the external effects loop downstream or upstream of the built-in effects?
