Laney

collapse expand iconDescription

Featuring the same great Ironheart tones as the bigger heads but in a low-wattage studio package with some neat features added.

It would be nice to record in a situation where making a lot of noise was not an problem, but in most cases people are recording in home studios, and making a lot of noise is not always an option. So the Ironheart IRT-Studio has a couple of features designed specifically to allow you to get a great tone whether you are recording in the studio or recording live.

The IRT-Studio features a USB Audio I/O and a RE-AMP send jack. The USB supplies both a dry signal and the processed signal - split left and right to your DAW - directly into either your PC/Mac or iPad, which means that you can alter the guitar tone of your original recording - without having to re-track anything!

The IRT-Studio has an internal dummy load, so, unlike a conventional tube-loaded amp, you don't need to connect an external speaker - which gives you truly silent recording.

It also houses a high-quality speaker-emulated record out immediately after the output section, which means it delivers all-tube tone to your DAW or PA or both at the same time for recording your live shows.

I use this product at home as I play guitar for a hobby but I've been the field of sound for a long time so I know what I want. Out of the box it looks nice. Plug it in and get drawn to the red lights radiating from the inside. Plug in the guitar and the sound is very blues, even 60's raw sound. After all it was designed for the British sound. One thing to note is that the manual is outdated. This unit, per the manual, includes a gig bag for the amp. Well after not getting one and talking to Guitar Center customer service, very good service I might add, it turns out Laney no longer includes the gig bag with the amp. If you want it then you will have to purchase it separately. No thank you Laney. False advertisement. Update the manual. The sound of this head is pretty good. It really depends on what you want to play. If you want metal you will have to do some tweaking. The tubes will have to be replaced for the metal sound. This is equipped with a TAD EC33 in the V1 spot and two Ruby 12AX7 tubes. The power tubes are both Ruby EC84 tubes. Designed to match the other Ruby 12AX7 tubes. Overall this will get you a british sound. Beatles, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin..etc. For the metal sound I switched out the Ruby tubes with Mullard tubes. They provide a higher output and the mid is perfect for what I want. I kept the TAD EC33 in the V1 spot. One thing that has really disappointed me is the tubes do NOT light up. I don't know about you but I like seeing the tubes lights up. You're probably wondering what about the red color you see coming from inside the head? It's three red led lights. Major disappointment. As for the channels, you have a clean channel that is also your rythm channel. The other channel is your lead. Two independent channels with their own controls plus a boost. Plenty of outputs in the rear. FX loop, headphone. 8 and 16 ohm speaker selector. Overall the head does what it's intended to do. Would I recommend to a friend..depends on the sound you want.

Really fantastic little amp. I bought this to replace my laney IRT30-112 combo which I also love, but it was a little heavier than I wanted to be lugging around to gigs. I loved the idea of a portable version of that combo, which I found in the IRT Studio This little amp head, at 12 lb, is fantastically portable. Combined with an 18 lb Mojotone 1x12 cabinet loaded with a Celestion neo-Creamback speaker, this pair makes a great little home practice and gigging setup. Despite the Ironheart range's advertisement as metal amps, they're really very versatile and have no problem getting great cleans, gritty blues, or driving rock. This 15 watt amp had no problem keeping up on stage with two other guitarists. Really my only disappointment is the lack of gig bag.

Used it in my studio. Sounded amazing! Then ...it stopped working. No blown fuse. Just wouldn't turn on.

Okay people. Don't get a Kemper. Don't get an Axe-FX. Don't get a Helix. You need a light, portable, rack mount head? Get a Laney Ironheart Studio! 15 watts of all tube awesomeness. Super versatile with a unique gain voicing. I actually found a great blues tone on accident haha. Only con was it's missing the gig bag for some reason. #LOVEMUSICLOVELANEY

My main rig is a Mesa Mark V combo that stays in the studio. I was on the hunt for moderately priced three channel amp that I could play either with headphones or through my studio monitors at low volume and in a pinch use as a backup amp with the PA I demo'd the Blackstar HRT-5, Carvin V3M, Peavey Classic 20 and 6505 mini, and other amps and all fell short on the DI output ranging from marginally usable on the Classic 20 to "why did they bother" on the Carvin. The Laney IRT Studio DI Cab Emulated output sounds full and lush. Three channels is what I needed and all three sound great. I would highly recommend you put this on your short list.

  • Everything I could ever ask for!
