Kremona

collapse expand iconDescription

Kremona's Artist Series Guitars are handcrafted entirely of solid, carefully selected tonewoods from all over the world. In the case of the Sofia, it's a blend of red cedar (top), solid sapele (back and sides), African mahogany (neck) and Indian rosewood (fingerboard, bridge and headstock) that gives it a unique and striking timbre.

Crafted by Kremona's most experienced luthiers, the Artist Series Sofia is lively and extraordinary expressive. Other appointments include a set dovetail neck joint, fine rosewood purfling, a wooden rosette, bone nut and saddle, and gold-plated machine heads with amber buttons.

Includes CGHC deluxe hard case.

Great guitar. Great Price. Great service.

I first played a Sofia several years ago and loved the sound. It's strong in the mid and bass notes, without washing out the high end. Last year I found one at GC that had a damaged machine head. After several visits to GC to play the guitar and try to make a deal (and months of patience), GC finally accepted my offer. I walked away a happy man. I figured I could find a replacement set of heads on-line and was hoping to find the exact VanGent heads that were stock on the guitar. After several days of searching, I finally reached out to Kremona USA to see if they could sell me a replacement set. Within a few minutes of my message, I received a reply from Nikolay. He was attending the NAMM show but promised to send me a new set of heads free of charge when he returned. I explained that the damage was not a factory issue and that I was willing to pay for the heads, but he sent me the heads free of charge anyway. Now my Sofia sounds great and looks like new. I couldn't be happier with the guitar or the service from Kremona. I've had some follow-up communications with Nikolay regarding string recommendations and I've also been experimenting with the setup. The factory setup was a bit high, but I've lowered it and installed some high tension D'Adarrio's and have noticed improvement on the high end. I also find the shape of the neck to be very comfortable. It has a flatter profile, which I find helpful when playing the high tension strings. This is the best guitar purchase I've made, and I now have 11 guitars, including five other classicals.

Poor materials

The wood on the back of the guitar has split in two places. It was kept under very good normal conditions but still it has a symmetrical split in the back. Very disappointed.

I bought this guitar over two years ago now. It has never disappointed. You will have to pony up an additional 900 bucks for anything better. I have the Solea as well and yes it is a better guitar as far as sound. That said, if you are a half descent guitar player, you can make the Sofia sound great. Don't worry if you see a negative review or two. I have owned a lot of guitars in my life and I just can't say enough good things about Kremona. I would add, any new guitar needs a good set up. Not that it won't be playable from the factory but humidity in different areas will have some affect and the guitar can change as it ages. Set ups are cheap are generally worth the time and trouble. I use Savarez strings because I like the sound. They may not last as long as some of the others but they sure make my guitar sing. Hope this review helps. Thanks Keith

Learning classical guitar and music in general. Extremely pleased with this purchase. A bit pricey, but quality versus price is excellent. The guitar itself is absolutely gorgeous. This one came having tones of brown and no red or orange. Unlike the website, the headstock has no carving in it and the tuning knobs are a really nice orange/amber color instead of black. One thing to note was that the hardshell case came with a couple of very small cuts on the outside and some scuffing. It's unclear where this might have happened.

I'm on the fence on returning this guitar, but the covid-19 conditions make it difficult. The guitar is overall amazing, which makes the cosmetic issues that much more irritating. First off, the tone and feel of the guitar are first rate and my impressions are pretty much inline with the other positive reviews here. However, there are the following problems: - The eighth fret has a rough edge where it is set in the fretboard (see picture) - There are some imperfections on the fret board, where it meets the body (see picture) - There is a rough spot on the neck which is probably the result of the condition of the wood used. This is not visible, but is very annoying when playing. This is my biggest gripe with this guitar. I could live with these problems if the guitar had been advertised and priced as B stock, so I will probably be returning for a better specimen.

  • Who knew? Turns out, Kremona builds a great guitar.

The story is, I have the 90th anniversary edition, the Solea and I wanted a good guitar to take on trips and such Wasn't sure of what I would get for the money, but I tell you, this is the real deal and quite a bargain in my opinion. Just a pleasure to play. If you are looking for a good Nylon string guitar, just order one and check it out.

  • Great guitar. Amazing playability.

Went to Guitar Center to try out a couple of classical guitars. I was originally set on getting a Cordoba and then I saw this guitar. Compared to the Cordoba, the Kremona I tried was much more sublime. Great mellow tone, perfect for classical guitar songs. It also comes with a really nice case!

Is this the SC-T model that includes a truss rod, or is this a different model without a truss rod?

There is no truss rod. Classical guitars typically don't have truss rods. The neck tension doesn't require it.
