Description
Before 1922, most popular mandolins had Oval-shaped sound holes, which created a distinctive sound that played a significant role in shaping the sound of popular music of the day. The diminutive size, unique voice and relative affordability (compared to F-dstyle mandolins) made it perfect for a wide range of musical styles. Vintage examples of these popular A-style instruments are still played by discerning musicians and coveted by collectors around the world. This legendary mandolin design is affordably manifest in the Kentucky KM-272 A-style mandolin with the oval sound hole.

Incorporating the best features of vintage designs, and using only the best tonewoods, each instrument is expertly hand-carved and graduated to produce an instrument with a tone, look and build quality of highly prized collectible instruments. So take a step back in time by playing a new instrument that combines all the best features of old and the new “priced so that is affordable to all players.

This mandolin is $100 dollars more than the KM-270 because it comes in a different color. Save 25% of your money and just order the Sun Burst. The KM-270 and the KM-272 are both made exactly the same by SAGA music and their MSRP values are the same although the music store cartel like to collectively raise the price on the KM-272 for no other reason than color. If you are buying a mandolin, get the best one you can for as cheap as possible, or you could give them extra money for a pain boring paint job.

  • Great Mandolin, especially at this price

This mandolin is gorgeous in both looks and sound. It has a sweeter and woodier sound than an f-hole model. It's very well constructed. I thought I might have to get the set up tweaked in a shop, but the factory set up seems great - the neck and action are fine, and the frets are smooth and level. All I had to do was get the bridge in the right spot and tune it up. It sounds good now, and I expect the sound to improve as it gets played in. I normally don't like to buy instruments without playing them first, but shopping choices for affordable mandolins in my area are even more limited than my budget. After doing some research, I took a chance, and couldn't be happier. I have a friend with a Collings mandolin, and sure, I like the looks and sound of that one a bit more, but I don't like it 15 times more. This mandolin is a great choice for someone looking for a vintage sound (i.e., it's probably not right for a bluegrass picker), who doesn't have a fortune to spend.

    1. Where is the Kentucky KM-272 Artist A Model Mandolin made? 2. What would be the cost of a recommended case (gig bag or solid)? 3. How much would it cost to ship to India? 4. Will the tone remain good/ improve over the years?

This mandolin was made in China. The Travelite Lightweight F-Style Mandolin Case is the recommended case. The tone should remain good and improve over the years. You would just need to add the item to your cart and proceed to the checkout section to view the shipping costs.
