Korg Volca Product Overview

Description
volca keys is a long-awaited synthesizer that adds a new chapter to the long and storied history of KORG's analog synthesizers. This 27-key analog lead synth delivers unbelievably powerful sound in a compact body. Starting with a filter section that uses the circuitry of the legendary miniKORG700S (1974), it delivers astonishing sound that takes full advantage of KORG's half-century of know-how in circuit design.
With a simple structure that includes delay effect and a sequencer, it's also an ideal choice for a first analog synth. It offers the richly expressive sounds that are distinctive of analog, providing the enjoyment of simple yet deep sound creation. The possibilities are endless; you can use the three oscillators to play chords, use them in unison with detune to produce solid lead lines, or apply ring modulation to create far-out metallic sounds.

I LOVE the Volca Keys So much so that I made a sample library with it using automation and anything I could think of If there's one thing that's greatest about it It's the filter Korg filter are the best (Sorry Moog) And this filter is no exception I've used this with its sequencer and it can be fun But I think from now on I'm going to use it to create samples and then load the samples in a Waldorf Blofeld for playback When I was using the sequencer I got the best results recording automation from Ableton with a Max for Live device that controlled all automatable parameters For sonic precision Using a software device to create your automation is a breeze and is so expressive
great lil synth world no doubt... that price tho??

I'm a huge analog fan, and find that Korg has been pumping out a lot of super-fun equipment lately that is very affordable for the home studio songwriter/analog gear geek. I've only begun to explore the awesomeness of this gadget- I've been madly in love with my Volca Beats unit and was really psyched to get this companion piece which syncs up nicely with other members of the Volca series to create some sweet beats on the fly. My only concern is that I'm totally hooked. Must. Buy. More. Volcas... P.S. If you're on the fence about this or any of the other Volca units, there are a bunch of vids on YouTube of people doing some super-cool stuff with the entire line.

I was deeply impressed by the monotron series and I was fired up when korg engineered these improvenents on those rad ideas. those who love analog synths know that keeping the machines in tune is a task of Hercules- but volca keys, I understand, has a feature that keeps it in tune. the miniature keys are slightly less difficult to use than the teeny ribbon controller of the monotrons, but the small keys on the console are still smurf-like in nature. HOWEVER, one can link a midi keyboard to this bad boy and generate these cool sounds with far greater ease- korg was ingenious and kind for doing this. three note polyphony (well, sorta), awesome blip sounds and an intuitive sequencer are assets- the tiny keys, the limited scope of sounds and many incompatibilities with some midi controllers are liabilities. not every sound is a gem- my lady friend mistook one of my crations for the smoke alarm. I love my volca- we play keyboards due to our love of diverse sounds and the volca keys is an excellent component in any rig.
Korg just raised the bar on everyone!

After waiting what seemed like 6 months to finally get my hands on one, I got my Korg Volca Keys about 2 weeks ago. It's packaged in a kind-of hard to open box (sealed rather tightly and secure). After opening, putting in the included batteries (YES!) and using the attached cable to sync it with my Korg Monotribe, the two hours of non-stop fun began. This IS NOT A TOY. It is small, yes...but even with its simple and fairly straightforward synthesis-its a great little analogue synth that has a built-in delay unit (which is also tempo-syncable). It saves up to 8 sequences (with knob tweaks!) and as a person with big hands, all the knobs are fairly easy to grab. Within about 30 minutes, I felt like I had a great handle on this box. Korg is doing what Roland should have done-reaching back into the archives and create something a bit new, with some older analogue architecture. At $149 you get a midi and sync capable machine with a nice step sequencer...and if you haven't listened to it-youtube is your friend. I will not describe its sound here, just to say that it is expressive enough that I'm able to make it sound like me. So, buy one...before you can't. Because the Volca series is about as exciting as it gets for under $200.
