Jackson

Description

Iron Maiden is one of the most successful and influential metal bands ever, and Adrian Smith's molten yet melodic guitar work has long been a driving force behind their distinctive and dynamic sound. With timeless songwriting and thrilling live performances, Maiden continues to record, tour internationally and rock stadiums everywhere with electrifying prowess and unwavering heavy metal passion.

Jackson pays tribute to the legendary axeman with the X Series Signature Adrian Smith SDXM model. Offered in an affordable price range, the SDXM features a basswood San Dimas body and a bolt-on maple neck with graphite-reinforcement rods that refuse to budge, no matter how much environmental stress it's exposed to. Its 12"-16" compound radius maple fingerboard with 22 jumbo frets and black dot inlays is the perfect launching pad for rapid-fire riffing or complex chords.

The SDXM packs a Jackson high-output humbucker in the bridge position and Jackson single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions. The humbucking pickup was painstakingly voiced for full, rich tone while providing maximum overdrive and sustain, whereas the single-coil middle and neck pickups deliver that unmistakable Strat snap. A five-way blade selector switch with single volume and tone controls open up endless tonal possibilities, while the Floyd Rose Special double-locking tremolo system keeps the guitar in tune through any and all abuse you throw its way.

Boasting stylish looks with a versatile and dynamic voice, this signature axe is decked out in Snow White with white pickguard, black hardware and licensed Fender Strat headstock. Case sold separately.

I've had this guitar for about 4-5 weeks now and I couldn't be happier. I said I'd never have a guitar with a pick guard but I'm getting into it. This guitar is 1 of 3 Jackson guitars I have and so far I'd consider it the best. All 3 have great tone and playability but the Adrian Smith is just better.

  • I loved it but

I just bought my second of the Adrian Smith SDXM Jacksons, and both it and my older one (from the original year they were released) are wonderful guitars! Sure, Jackson pickups vs Dimarzio or Seymour Duncans, and/or Floyd Special vs Original Floyd might be small considerations respected in value, but there are really no cons to these beauties. The Floyd Rose Special performs very nice - stays in tune excellent - nearing indistinguishable from the original Floyds for casual players. Pickups - sure, the most elite pickups on the planet might pack a bit more, but the bridge in this is quite good for both tone and power - broad spectrum playability. As for the neck and body, they're awesome! My older one has the white pick guard and the ebony fretboard (not sure if it was rosewood or other - great regardless). The new one I bought has the black pick guard and the maple neck. There's a minor feel difference in the finish on the two necks (newer one has a slightly lighter finish, more satiny kind of feel), but both play super quick - exceptionally nice! Picture 'almost' an unfinished feel - very slight clear coat - makes it ultra fast! The body is well balanced and surprisingly heavy. I've heard that some of the earlier models had issues with the black single ply pickguard warping, but I've also been told thats no longer an issue; mine's perfect, so I tend to believe the latter. I own many Jacksons, and I'm familiar with the small nuances between their product lines. In my opinion, regarding overall quality control, these Indonesian made SDXMs seem mostly comparable to the current pro series line from Jackson - surprisingly tighter and better from the factory than most of the current X series or JS32 series (locking trem models), though, any of them can be tweaked to perfect with a little setup effort; all very nice guitars. I love these Adrian Smith Jacksons! They're awesome!
