Ibanez
Description
The Ibanez Xiphos Iron Label electric guitar was developed with nothing but the heaviest metal in mind. These are the hardest hitting axes ever built by Ibanez with features designed to contribute to the bone rattling, earth shattering tones these guitars deliver. The Xiphos electric is constructed with a 5-piece maple/walnut neck topped with an ebony fretboard, an okoume body for bright sound and an Edge-Zero II Tremolo for fluid whammy attacks. Equipped with DiMarzio D-Activator pickups, this metal-centric shred machine provides a powerful, clean and open sound with excellent harmonic overtones and a very tight low-end response. A gig bag is also included for portable protection between gigs.

I bought this guitar based on looks because... look at it! After a quality setup, it plays well, albeit with thicker Wizard II neck. Well balanced and zero neck dive with a leather strap, unlike the EVH Star. It's nice to play sitting down between the legs. Don't care for D-Activators, so I installed REAL actives and swapped the pot next to the bridge pickup for a killswitch because that knob was in the way. Note: have a professional do these things for you. The frets are not as level as the frets on my (also Indonesian made) Strandberg. I checked with a fret rocker. You can get the action reasonably low though with negligible buzz. Quality-wise, I do think LTD is a better value and quality made in South Korea. I tried out a Hetfield LTD at a local store and the action was quite low with no buzz. Those guitars also come with a hard case for the same price as this. But this guitar does look better IMO and there's nothing wrong that can't be fixed. This guitar has really grown on me and I like it a lot now and it sounds killer with EMGs. If you like low action and are unable to get a fret level, I'd probably get an LTD instead. If Ibanez ever releases a shiny made in Japan version with unfinished wizard neck, I'll purchase immediately.
