Ibanez
Description
The S Series S621QM electric guitar is cloaked in a quilted maple top with beautiful transparent finish, a bound Indian rosewood fretboard and features jumbo frets. Lurking beneath its graceful 3-D shape is mahogany specifically chosen for S Series instruments. It's light enough to amaze in terms of comfort, heavy enough to provide the tone and sustain that players expect from the S Series.

As the originators of the thin, fast neck, the Ibanez Wizard III neck is yet another achievement in playability, providing the S Series S621QM with the kind of comfort that translates to responsiveness and speed. Proprietary Quantum pickups round out this metal mammoth with an entire palette of thick, distorted tone textures that retain high-end articulation. A simple, yet solid fixed bridge provides stable, dependable tuning and accurate intonation.

After learning how to repair and play on my friends DEAN guitar, I purchased this Ibanez S621QM new from Guitar Center. This was my first Ibanez and I picked Ibanez due to their Japanese heritage plus I really like the Dragon Eye burst. (Note: This model is made in Indonesia. Only the higher end Ibanez guitars will be from Japan.) Pros -> Weight: The guitar is very slim and very light. It feels half the weight of a normal guitar. I and others love holding and playing this guitar. The guitar itself also feels very solid, despite its light weight. Looks: I really dig the Quilted Maple top along with the black hardware, neck and headstock. It's a killer looking guitar! Neck/Fret: The neck is one of the guitar's best features. It's a Wizard III neck, so gliding up and down is fast and easy. The fret board is a nice dark Indian Rose wood laden with jumbo frets. Pickups: The guitar comes with Ibanez Quantum pickups. I liked them and had no issues. Cons -> I have only two complaints about this guitar and why I removed two stars: 1. May not come as pictured - I really loved the black, deep faded outline around the body of the guitar in the picture. However, upon arrival my guitar had a brown fade. It was like not enough dye was used around the edge during the finishing process and came out brown instead of black. A bit disappointing. 2. Fret buzz. I took it in to get professionally setup at Guitar Center. However, I still hat more fret buzz on this guitar compared to other guitars. Overall, it is a very decent guitar, but with a couple flaws. Sometimes you don't get the best guitar out of the batch which is what I think I got. Other reviews either don't or seldom hit on the cons I listed, so not Ibanez fault, just the particular one I got. If you do decide to get this guitar and in the event you get the problems I listed, GC will be more then happy to exchange it for you. I didn't exchange mine because the turn around time to order another one was very long (months).

I bought it used from Guitar Center. This is a great guitar. I couldn't ask for anything more. Initially I had in mind that I would change the pickups to branded ones. But hey they sound great to me, don't feel like changing to anything else. I have at least a dozen guitars, but the Ibanez S-series lightness goodness makes me pick up this guitar all the time. I also have a s771pb but I think the s621 is better, cleaner, and better looking. The guitar is light, pickups sound great, the guitar feels smooth and easy to play, holds tuning great, the bridge looks clean, easy to adjust intonation, there are no pickup rings, five-way switch gives several nice configurations = awesome. I did change the knobs to gibson style speed knobs - they just went so much better with the rest of the guitar and is also much more functional. Oh I also painted over the Ibanez logo on the headstock. Not a big fan of Ibanez otherwise with their pointy-tip guitars and 60's font logos. Schecter has the best quality and manufacturing in the market. Only the Ibanez S-series appeals to me. Anyways, I have a second one coming. Can never have enough of a good thing. You should get one before I buy them all.

I want to give you a perspective of where I'm coming from on this. I'm a semi-experienced self-taught guitarist. I play acoustic and electric. I've got about 7 years under my belt. I started on your traditional acoustic Yamaha dreadnought, moved to a Fender custom archtop single-cutout cherry red birds-eye maple topped electric acoustic (I miss that thing...) within about a year or two. (an Ibanez acoustic in there) Then onto my first true electric, your Blue sunburst Tiger-maple topped Gibson Epiphone Les Paul Special, which I've been wailing on for the past 4-5 years or so to improve to a point where I feel like I could finally make a jump to a more quality electric. Now is that time... I've just received it today. (well, yesterday since it's past midnight) Everything about this guitar is perfect. It's not overdone on design. The contour is comfortable. The body is thin and lightweight. The finish is a semi-matte finish, so the natural beauty of the mahogany comes through on the back, and provides a subtle/muted feeling to it. The front, with the quilted maple, provides a warm vibe, regardless of the vibrant color. I actually have yet to plug it in, because I got lost in messing around on the fretboard almost immediately (checking for defects and whether the action needs adjusting, etc), but I expect the electronics to be superb. It's so much fun to play, it was distracting. The jumbo frets on this make it feel like you can "see" the strings better with your fingers, and they lend themselves well to vibrato and bends. The playability is comfortable and smooth. The action is PERFECT. Tone across the fretboard seems even and crisp as I jump between octaves. I can't praise this guitar enough. What a deal/value. I'm going to keep this one for a LONG time. It's so much fun to play...

This is a great guitar for the money, wide flat neck , beautiful wood and finish. This body is slim, I mean really slim like a pumpkin seed slim. It will melt into your body and it feels great, good sustain, but it's also really light. So light it tips toward the neck side of the strap. If you are used to 9lb Les Paul you may not like this but if you stand and play for hours you will love it. I would have given four and a half stars if there were an option because i had to clean the pup switch as it was cutting in and out when I got it. Not shure if it was dirty contacts or too much dielectric grease but i removed it and hit it with some spray contact cleaner and it works flawlessly now. I dont recommend cleaning the switch mounted in place as the contact cleaner will destroy the guitar finish of the guitar. That said maybe it should have been 4.5 stars for everything that they got right in this price point to me was not worth a full star deduction. If it needs to be cleaned again soon i will just replace the switch. It's a good guitar that holds tune, and is easy on the shoulder

Guitar wants to play itself. Perfect feel in the hands for me. Great tone and sustain for the price. QM DEB top is by its nature variable - the one I got was perfect for me, more subtle than many I saw online. Others may not like a less garish top but I was very happy. Out of 15 electric guitars I have it has become one of the favorites for all-around playing. For the price these S-series Ibenez guitars are as good as they get.
