Dream Theater - Overture 1928 cover

The Ibanez RG450DX solidbody electric guitar is a high-performance ax engineered for shredding. Featuring a sleek basswood body and ultrafast Wizard III maple neck, the RG450DX blends comfort and speed for the ultimate metal experience. The 24-jumbo frets on a rosewood fingerboard provide ample room for fretting hand acrobatics, while a trio of Ibanez Quantum pickups delivers tight bass, searing mids and articulated highs through five pickup combinations. An Edge-Zero II double-locking tremolo system keeps everything stable and in tune even when executing wild divebombs and squeals. The Cosmo black hardware is the menacing final touch on this metal monster. Plug into a high-gain amp, crank the volume and let the RG450DX roar—your shredding dreams have come true.
Wizard III Neck: Built for Speed and Strength
The RG450DX features a Wizard III maple neck, a thin, flat design engineered for lightning-fast playability and rock-solid stability. Its contours and shallow depth provide a comfortable feel for any playing position. The two-octave, 24-fret rosewood fingerboard gives shredders ample room to explore the instrument's full tonal range.
Quantum Pickups: High-Output and Tracking with Precision
A trio of Quantum humbucking pickups delivers the output and tonal control needed for modern metal. The bridge pickup provides tight bass and searing midrange, ideal for high-speed rhythm work. The neck pickup yields warmer, articulate tones perfect for expressive leads. A single-coil pickup in the middle position offers glassy, chiming tones. A five-way blade switch unlocks an array of tonal combinations from these pickups.
Edge-Zero II Bridge: Rock-Solid Performance
The RG450DX features an Edge-Zero II double-locking tremolo bridge for rock-solid tuning stability and performance. The bridge's low profile provides a comfortable playing feel and ergonomic design. The stud lock function further improves tuning stability for aggressive styles like shredding, dive bombing and squealing.

Great first guitar.
I should clarify that this guitar is mot my very first guitar. It is my first top brand guitar. That said, i actually bought it used and in great condition that even the plastic on the pick guard was still on. The shape is familiar, only sharper design points. All frets are easily accessible with nothing obstructing from the highest areas. The neck is thin enough to be comfortably held, and slide up and down. The electronics are a change from what i am use to. I believe i am sold on HSH setups. I am also more used to 2 tone knobs but i am very much happy with just the one. The sustain is amazing. The pickups are standard ibanez factory made, so comparing them to the higher quality ones is not fair to me. That said, for the price i believe the tone range is rather nice from these pickups. This is actually surprising, although not really! The trem system is another first for me. Never had a floating bridge, however the tricks i can do now with the trem has opened my playing to new possibilities. The one thing i am on the fence on is the frets. This is only personal preference as i believe they are rather nice for those who like jumbo frets. I like smaller frets. The upside is that vibrato is far easier with big frets and you can get your fingers in. As i said, its a preference and so i can't mark it down. It is very much worth it!

Mixed feelings
There is plenty to like about this guitar, and I got it for the features I was looking for: locking tremelo, 24 frets, fast neck, 5 way pickup selector, and nice looks. My first impressions of the guitar was slight disappointment with how sloppy Ibanez was. The tops and bottoms of the frets needed to be beveled as they were pretty sharp, there was a noticeable nick on the fretboard, and there was a black smudge on the back of the neck. None of those was a huge deal. The main two issues I have with the guitar are that the middle pickup, the single coil, has such low output that the middle three positions are much quieter than the neck or bridge pickups alone. I do like the tone of the single coil in conjunction with the humbuckers, but those positions are somewhat useless considering how quiet they are, and I have ordered a humbucker to replace it. The single coil alone (middle position) has too much noise AND is too quiet. Not a big deal to replace a pickup, but why they are selling it this way, I'm not sure. The second issue is the volume control. Instead of a gradual swell, there is a sharp dropoff in volume at one point in the rotation of the dial, making it pretty much useless other than having it full on or all the way off. I am not sure if that is fixable, but if it is, I'll need to have that done as well. All that said, if the guitar had not arrived in such sloppy condition and the two problems were resolved, I'd give this guitar 5 stars.

I have owned two different Japanese 80s Ibanez Floyd Rose type guitars that I should have kept but sold. Since then I have wanted a similar model at a reasonable price. I found this one used at guitar center Syracuse online. The operations manager was kind enough to insure the proper whammy bar was included. After a string change and a proper setup this guitar is a great sounding instrument that will handle any rock song you want to play and can also give excellent strat tones for more mainstream guitar music. It excels into a line 6 simulator for both clean and distorted tones. It you need locking tremolo you should check this guitar out.

Wow... this thing arrived in a sad condition set up wise.. EVERYTHING had to be set up.. from truss to pickups. It was literally thrown in a box without a second thought about it arriving in an even somewhat playable condition.. but..after practically rebuilding the thing, it sounds great and plays great. Holds tune well. Cosmetically its fine.. no scratches dings mark's etc.. but dont expect guitar center to ship it out ready to play..this one was never looked at by them before shipping out. It came off the boat without a 2nd look!
A great sounding work horse of a guitar!

I am very happy with this guitar. Only had to adjust the neck and lower the action and it was good to go. Fit and finish was just about perfect and no sharp fret ends. Love the zinc white finish with black hardware. A great sounding work horse of a guitar that fits perfect in a low cost Gator case!

This is a great guitar. It has good versatile tones, nice materials in the body and neck, and it just looks really cool. The only thing is that the middle single coil on mine will need to be replaced because it is too quiet.
