Description
Ibanez is thrilled to introduce the GSR205 5-String Bass. Part of Ibanez's acclaimed Soundgear series, the GSR205B provides stunning looks, a fat tone, and amazing playability at an unbeatable price. Its agathis body is comfortably contoured, and the slim maple neck allows for impressive speed and comfort. The active Phat II bass boost delivers additional low-end power, letting you keep the groove going all night. For bassists seeking pro-level performance on a budget, the Ibanez GSR205B is the clear choice.
PHAT II Active Bass Boost
The built-in PHAT II active bass boost provides extra low-end girth, allowing for a wide range of tones perfect for any musical style. Simply flick the boost on for a thunderous, subterranean rumble that will shake the floor, or leave it off for a punchy tone with defined midrange attack. The PHAT II circuit lets you shape your tone to fit the gig.
Fast, Slim Maple Neck
The GSR205B features a fast maple neck with a slim, comfortable profile that facilitates rapid runs and effortless position shifts. Its rosewood fretboard has medium frets for a playing feel familiar to most bassists. Whether laying down a solid groove or showcasing your chops, the GSR205B's neck provides unparalleled playability for the price.
Dual Powersound Pickups
The GSR205B comes equipped with a Dynamix H neck pickup and Dynamix H bridge pickup. These Powersound pickups provide a blend of lows, mids, and highs that suits a variety of musical applications. Roll off the neck pickup for a punchy, articulated tone or blend in the bridge pickup for a fuller sound with solid low-mid projection. Simple but effective, the Powersound pickups get the job done.
Roadworthy and Stylish
Despite its affordable price, the GSR205B is a legit pro-level instrument ready to handle the rigors of the road. Its contoured agathis body and durable hardware are built to last, and its sleek black finish is understated yet stylish. For the gigging bassist on a budget, the Ibanez GSR205B delivers professional performance, tone, and looks without breaking the bank.

I haven't stopped playing this since I have gotten it. It's my first 5 string, but my two 4 strings are lonely now. I am smaller and this is wonderful. I would buy it again.
Best bang for your buck bass you could buy!

Paired this Bass up with my Helix custom Bass tone and was blown away with the sound it delivers. Bought it to prepare for an audition and play live at small venues.
Quality of a $500+ guitar at half the price!

I'd like to get this out of the way first, the picture (for the orange model) is wrong. You get humbuckers, not J-style pickups. I have played guitar for years and years. After deciding to try out a bass to record full-on tracks, I ended up buying this one. No, not because it was cheap, they had cheaper and then WAY cheaper. I fell in love with the metallic orange. God does it catch the eye. The "BOOM" knob confused me at first, but it's a cool addition. Tone? Surprisingly great. Like really great. Huge props for the tone. Sounds great no matter which amp I use. Neck? Zero sharp frets. Perfect. Factory setup? Could be better but absolutely playable. I did get mine tweaked a little bit but definitely could've used it without an adjustment. But what really caught me off guard is how well-made and well-finished it is for a guitar in the $200-$300 price bracket. If I was handed this with tape over the headstock and asked to estimate the price I'd say it plays like a $500+ instrument. I see a lot of people saying "great for beginners" or "it's a good backup" but I think even an experienced musician would find this bass a blast to play. Huge kudos to Ibanez.
Pleasantly surprised.

This is a great novice or backup - which is what I bought it for - bass. For the money the quality is fantastic. Ibanez really has consistent quality across their whole line. Good fit and finish and no obvious sloppy workmanship. The sliding door access to the truss rod adjuster is a high end touch on a low end bass. The passive electronics are more than passable and the active BOOM circuit really gives you modern, punchy sound which I can see working well in metal music, but is applicable to other styles as well. The neck is shallow and the fretboard seems to be the perfect width to accommodate people with freakishly long fingers like myself as well more normal sized hands. The fretwork was fine and it was very easy to tweak the action just right. Someone could buy this bass an be happy with it for a long time, even keeping it as a back up if they choose to buy a more expensive insturment,
Very affordable 5 string for beginners.

I have been eyeing this bass for years. I was determined not to buy the floor model in store so I placed an order for a new model. It arrived just a day after I placed the order in fantastic condition. This is a very affordable, stylish 5 string bass for beginners. I would highly recommend it!

What strings does this come with. Had to replace a come strings and don't like the ones I bought. They sound twangy in comparison.
Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing for sure. This bass should come with either D'addario or Elixir strings.submitted6 years ago
