Ibanez

collapse expand iconDescription

The short-scale EHB1005SMS’s headless construction, contoured body, ergonomic design and chambered body make for a lightweight and comfortable instrument that’s excellent for long sets or practice sessions. Part of Ibanez's EHB series, it also sports a combination of high-quality tonewoods and versatile electronics, resulting in a cutting-edge, ultramodern bass, capable of cutting though the complex landscape of tones required for today’s bassist.

Comfortable Design

One of the most ergonomically friendly designs, the EHB1005SMS's headless construction, slanted body back, rounded body edges, scooped cut in the back and chambered body make this a comfortable bass to play whether you are seated or standing. It's also lightweight and balanced, so it won't kill your back after long hours of play. If you're a fingerpicker-style player, the EHB1005SMS's finger ramp is detachable.

Tonewoods

The EHB1005SMS is crafted from basswood which offers a natural, flat tone. This is paired with a 5-piece roasted maple/walnut neck that has been heat-treated to increase its stability, durability, moisture resistance and tolerance of temperature changes. Graphite reinforcement rods inside the neck provide massive sustain and excellent stability. The beautiful birdseye maple fretboard imbues this bass with an exotic appearance and is also heat-treated adding even more balanced attack and rich sustain.

Electronics

The EHB1005SMS is equipped with Bartolini BH2 pickups to provide a tight bottom-end, punchy midrange and smooth response. The dual-coil style configuration on this bass guitar maximizes articulation and a long blade pole piece widens the magnetic field, providing balanced string-to-string pickup response. The onboard Vari-mid 3-band EQ features a variable mid-frequency control, which allows you to dial in an incredibly wide range of sounds, while an EQ bypass switch (passive tone control on treble pot) offers precision tonal adjustments, including a switch to choose passive-only operation. When using EQ bypass, the treble tone control knob becomes the global tone control for the passive circuit.

MR5HS Bridge

The MR5HS bridge is designed specially for EHB basses and features a wide intonation range. Each bridge piece is independently and securely attached to the body for maximum vibration transfer. The saddles are adjustable for string spacing +/-1.5 mm, answering every bassist’s individual string spacing demands, no matter the playing style. Teflon washers are used on each tuner for a smooth tuning action.

The EB1005SMS bass also comes with Schaller S-Locks strap lock pins, rugged Ibanez custom headpieces, which enable strings to be easily set and released by a hex wrench from the back side, and a gig bag.

Bass Workshop

For more than 40 years, Ibanez has pioneered new frontiers in bass development, pushing the boundaries of conventional designs to bass players of all styles, affording new avenues of expression and creativity. This spirit of exploration has led to the creation of some of the most successful and popular production basses of all time. Following this same drive to bring new and relevant ideas to the musical forefront is what serves as the basis for this ongoing project, dubbed the Ibanez Bass Workshop. The impetus behind each one of these unique instruments comes from a desire by the Ibanez bass development team to satisfy the particular needs of many players. These inventions may not be for everyone, but for those who yearn to explore new sonic vistas through the medium of bass: The Ibanez Bass Workshop project may give you just what you're looking for.

I love this bass. It's lightweight, plays very well, and sounds great. Its scale is slightly shorter, which took a good bit of getting used to, but once I did, it's the only bass I play. I have 5 stingray, which is awesome, but it weighs a million pounds! This bass sounds about as good as the stingray with a lot less weight. weight! As an added bonus it fits in a guitar bag so it takes up way less room in the van!

I inquired about the scale length of this bass before and I got an answer that was not clear. Is it 32" or 30"? 30" would be considered a short scale bass but 32" is in between full and short scale and is not a true short scale bass. Which is it 32" or 30".

      812mm/32" - 762mm/30". It's a multi scale. It changes.

The ad says that this is a short scale 5 string bass. There is suspiciously no specs to confirm that but the other 34 inch scale similar models of this bass does contain the specs. What is the scale length of this bass so that people can have the confidence that the ad is correct?

What is the scale length of this bass? If you say it's a shorts scale bass, then the length of the bass should be mentioned in the specifications.
