Great Ibanez Semi Hollowbody

This is a great guitar! I own a Les Paul, a Fender American Standard Strat, a Tele knockoff, a wonderful Hollowbody Jazz box by De Armond. This Ibanez AS 73 plays better than all- it is set up so fine. The word that I would use to describe it is "precise." When you bend a note, it is really easy to tel if you are bending a step, a half step, or if you are 10% or 20 % away from your target tone. When playing leads, I've never had this experience before, it just sems so precise as to what tones you hit. As far as the overall sound, it is excellent- very versatile, but definitely more towards a smooth, mellow sound. Especially suited for Blues and Jazz, but it can rock to. The Pups are nice but not super charged like some metal guitars. That doesn't mean it doesn't sound great playing rock with OD and distortion. Just might not be the perfect guitar for Metallica or Def Leppard. But with the right pedals, who knows? The guitar speaks of quality craftmanship. I think anyone ordering this guitar would be happy because of the superb tone and the incredible playability. It was set up fine with great action- easy to tune and stays in tune. Several nice features- oversized strap buttons, easy change bridge, and the truss rod cover swings out of the way- what a great idea- no screwdriver needed. And, I think it's one of the handsomest guitars I've ever seen.

I would buy this again

The guitar had great tone and solid pickups but even after a professional set up it had fret buzz, high action, and trouble staying in tune. I think I must've gotten one of the bad ones (that happens in mass production), but anyway it would've been great with a fret polish and new nut. Guitar was absolutely beautiful as well.

This guitar played great right out of the box. I expected some issues but I've found none. Fit and finish is good. No fret issues. I just tune it up and started playing. I'll use some cleaner/ conditioner on the fret board as it leaves a dark residue on my fingers when I play. I've had this with other rosewood style necks. Not sure what this is. I've only had it a few weeks but no issues.

  • Love the neck!

Comfortable to hold and play. Haven't yet been able to find the tone I'm looking for though.

I currently own several Guitars = Gibson Les Paul Trad Pro, Gibson SG Standard, Fender Custom Shop Strat, and a few acoustics Taylor, Fender to name a few. I wanted a semi hollow body but didn't want to spend a ton since I was unsure if I would be "into" the tone and feel totally. Sooo I purchased the Ibanez AS73 as a safe not too much not to little cost in between test guitar. I am still blown away by the quality of this guitar every time I play it. For the price I can't find anything that can come close. I have been playing for over 30 years and this is a great semi hollow body guitar. I played a Gibson ES 335 and really cannot justify the price difference for what I do. (I play mostly for my own enjoyment and do not gig). Anyhow, just my opinion but if you have any doubts you should play one and make your own judgement... I vote two thumbs up.

  • Awesome Guitar

This was not the guitar I set out to buy, but when it came down to it, I needed a new instrument for a gig coming up. The instrument was set-up already for ease of playability and sounded great with the electronics provided. I needed something between blues and modern jazz and ended up in the right, affordable category.

  • A lot of bang for your buck!

I'm not a professional, I bought to get more of a jazz sound. I like it very much! I gave it only 4 stars because of the fret issue.

What kind of hard shell case would work for this guitar? I am also interested in a Vox amp 100 -130 watts with controls for gains and distortion. Can you give me some options for both of these items?
